Feb. 14,21, 1979) Local Bowler Beats The Champs In Competition Chip Cynowa, of Oakwood Shores, has recently become a semi-finalist in the "Beat the Champs" competition that was held locally. His winning series was second highest in the county. He has now gone to com petition in DeKalb where all the semi-finalists will be com peting. Chip and his wife, Lauri, both bowl in a mixed league at a McHenry bowling alley. His present average is 181. Good luck, Chip, we're all pulling for you! YOUNG AT HEARTS The Young At Hearts were finally able to get together after all the cancellations. Marie Robinson tells me that all the members enjoyed being together and were treated to some delicious desserts for their Feb. 7 meeting. Everyone was glad to hear that Rose Schladt, who had recently undergone eye surgery, is doing very well. The next meeting will be held Feb. 21 at 11 a.m. in Christ the King church hall. Hostesses for this upcoming meeting will be Adeline Dolan, Marian Draf- fkorn, and Ann Wilcox. POTLUCK DINNER While the husbands and children of members of the Wonder Lake Woman's club are enjoying T.V. dinners at home, the ladies will be in dulging in various gourmet delights at their annual Potluck dinner Feb. 15, beginning at 7 p.m. This is a chance for the members to show off their cooking specialties, and also to enjoy all those casseroles that the kids stick their noses up at when they see you putting them on the table! All members are also asked to bring a wrapped white elephant gift that will be given away when games are played after dinner. SENIOR CITIZENS "In-Home Health Care", a program that was originally scheduled for January, will be presented at the Feb. 19 meeting of the Wonder Lake Senior Citizens. Blood pressures will also be taken before this meeting, as is the custom on the third Monday of the month. Lydia Germain, president, says that to find out if a meeting will be cancelled due to bad weather, call her, or Peg Thome. SNOWMOBILE BASEBALL Even though most Wonder Lake snowmobilers belong to the Lakers club, there are many who are members of the Trailblazer club of Richmond. They have recently announced some of their upcoming ac tivities. Baseball is normally thought of as a warm weather sport, but not so anymore, at least to snowmobile fans. On Sunday, Feb. 18, at 1 p.m. in Spring Grove at the corner of Route 12 and Meyer raod, you will be able to witness snowmobile baseball. The basemen are all on snowmobiles and the batter must hit the ball, start his snowmobile, and ride down the baseline. The next scheduled game is to be held Sunday, Feb. 25, at 1 p.m. against the Genasnoers at Genoa City park. Dress warm and enjoy the winter version of baseball! SUNRISE RIDGE ELECTIONS April 17 will be the day for elections to the village board. Petitions to run had to be filed by Feb. 13, but it is never too late to seek office. Lisa Kelly, village clerk, says that if someone is still in terested, but failed to file a petition, they could be a write- in candidate. To be declared a winner, they would have to receive 50 percent or more of the total number of votes that were cast in the last election, which was 146. COMMUNITY CALENDAR Feb. 15 - Woman's Club Potluck dinner, 7 p.m. Nativity Lutheran church. Feb. 17 - Solo and ensemble contest for Harrison school. Feb. 17 • Candle light bowl by Company II auxiliary of Fire department. Feb. 19 - Senior Citizens club > meeting, Nativity Lutheran church hall. Feb. 21 • Young At Hearts meeting, Christ the King church hall. Feb. 26 - Appreciation dinner for CCD teachers of Christ the King church. Feb. 28 - Ash Wednesday - Beginning of Lent. V Boy Scouts Assist Recycling McHenry's third-Saturday- of-every-month recycling drive for newspapers, glass, cans, aluminum, corrugated card board, magazines, and used motor oil will be held this Saturday, Feb. 17, from 9 to 5 in its usual location, the southeast corner of the McHenry Market Place parking lot. Boy Scouts, Cub Scouts, and their parents from Troop 456 in Wonder Lake will be working along with the McHenry County Defenders this month. They will be on hand to help unload cars, supply people with extra rope where needed, and in general move recyclable material along the route to being reclaimed as usable material again. As people coming to last month's drive were notified, used motor oil can now be accepted for recycling. In formation flyers will be available at Saturday's drive. Used motor oil should be brought in plastic jugs with secure fitting lids (such as gallon * milk jugs). Citizens are asked to remember that bi-metal beverage cans cannot be ac cepted. Many aluminum- seeming cans are actually bi metal, even those with the smooth, seamless bases. All aluminum cans have printed on them "all-alluminum" or "recyclable aluminum" and will not respond to a magnet. In January, because of the blizzard conditions, it was impossible to accept glass and steel cans for recycling since trucks were very busy plowing streets. This month, recep tacles for glass and cans should be available. The recycling committee acknowledges the understanding and willingness to store their bottles and cans for an extra month. Anyone having questions about preparation, or with a large quantity of material to be picked up, may call the McHenry County Defenders representative at 385-8512. People who were unable to pay their debts were put into prison until, somehow, the debts were paid. The social injustice caused by this practice was the primary motive for the enactment in this country of the Federal Bankruptcy act of 1898. According to the Illinois State Bar association, the purpose of the act is quite simply to provide relief from debt by allowing the federal court to "discharge" the debts. After discharge the debtor is no longer obligated to pay those debts. The right to petition for release from debts through bankruptcy is accompanied by certain requirements and obligations to be met by the person filing for bankruptcy, according to ISBA: ELIGIBILITY: Any person whor has lived within the judicial district for the majority of the preceding six months, and who has not received a discharge in bankruptcy within a period of six years is eligible for relief under the Act. FILING: The proceeding is commenced by filing a petition in federal court. Along with the petition, a "schedule" or list of all assets and liabilities must also be filed. As soon as possible thereafter, creditors are notified that a bankruptcy petition has been filed. The debtor is then temporarily relieved of the responsibility of SECTION 2 - PAGE 5 - PLAINDEALER - WEDNESDAY, FEBRUARY 14. t97«> paying the debts and cannot be legally harassed Petitions must be ac companied by the prescribed filing fee or arrangements can be made at that time to pay filing fees in installments. In cases involving substantial assets, the court will assign a receiver (a person who will receive custodial power for purposes of inventory) and a trustee (a person who will liquidate the assets in the best interests of the creditors). OBLIGATIONS: The final result of a successful petition for bankruptcy is called a "discharge of debt". The discharge has the effect of releasing the debtor from past indebtedness, but the person declared bankrupt must comply with the following requirements: 1. Surrender all assets into the custody of the federal court PICK'THE BEST BUYS AT A P! PLUS AT A0P YOU GET SOLD AS STEAK ONLY | ROUND STEAK m h S&H GREEN STAMPS! Congress recently passed major amendments to the. Bankrupc> Act which will alter p r e s e n t b a n k r u p t c y procedures, but most of the amendments will not become effective until Oct 1, 1979 (Until then the present Bankruptcy act will continue to apply to all cases filed before that date ) New Transport Rules The Illinois Department of Transportation and Illinois State Police announced last week the regulation of in-state transportation of hazardous materials over the state's high' ways. The new regulations, mandated by the Illinois General Assembly, become effective Feb 1.
