That win, with Crown's defeat at the hands of Jacobs, enabled the former Warrior coach to have his Gators in first place in the Fox Valley. They led the league with an 8 and 2 mark compared to the Vikings 7 and 2 record. The pesky Warriors gave the South team all they could handle and then some in the opening half of whe game Friday night. The Gators jumped off to an early lead, but Lenny Jensen's accurate shooting, along with Brett Thomafc, and Jimmy Johnson kept the Warriors in the game as they trailed 13 to 12 at the end of the first eight minutes. It was in the second period that perhaps the finest quarter of basketball played between two teams in quite a while took place at Buckner gym. It was a spectator's delight, the miscues were few, the defense was tough, and the shooting just super on the part of both games. With guard Lenny Jensen leading the way, the Warriors matched the hot shooting of the Gators' two fine guards, Ken Hall and Dave Zoellick basket for basket and added an extra one to take the lead at the in­ termission 36 to 35. Bob Zeller s six quick points in the matter of a minute, and Jim Johnson's lay up gave the Warriors a 34 to 31 lead, with under two minutes remaining. Tony Sroka's only basket of the night gave the Warriors a 36 to 33 lead, but Hall made one of his eleven baskets at the buzzer to close the gap to 36-35 Warriors. The Gators turned the tide in the third period. For the past three games the Warriors had broke from the gate in the third period to ring up a comfortable margain, but it was not to be on Friday night. With Hall, Zoellick and Baker all taking turns at the hoop, the Collins crew jumped out to a lead that was not to be denied. The Gators led at the end of the third period 54 to 44. The final period got to be a little raggy on the part of both teams. With the outcome no longer in doubt, miscues, and fouls took place, and the Gators spent some time at the charity line. The only concern on the part of the Warriors was how bad the injury was to center Jimmy Johnson. The young lad from all reprots is on the disabled list with a leg fracture. This will be a blow to Coach Ken Ludwig and his Warriors. Jim had 16 points before becoming injured, and was becoming a vital cog in the Warrior machine during the past several weeks.
