For this occaslofr^she was dressed in a gown, coaf and shawl once worn by her father, by sister , Cassandra, 4, and by her brother, Stephen, 2Vfe. Zabrina's godparents are Mrs. Patty Phelen, Kansas City, and James Brennan, Norwalk, Calif. Great- grandparents are Mrs. William Althoff and Mr. and Mrs. Charles Phelen, and they were also in attendance. A gatheringwwas held in the Zriny home afterward for about fifteen guests. Assertiveness Topic At Newcomers Meeting "Becoming a More Assertive Person" will be the topic presented by Mary Kay Messling of the Family Service and Community Health Center for McHenry county at the next monthly meeting of the Town and Country Newcomers club on Tuesday, March 13 at 7:30 pjn. at St. Paul's Episcopal church in McHenry. -Visitors are especially welcome at this session as club members begin an intense membership drive for the next few months. Membership co- chairman Ruth DeVries and Judie Wilcox will ask those attending to aid in membership activities. Membership in the Newcomers club is not necessarily limited to only the most recent arrivals in the community. Some active members of the club have lived in the area for some years. The object of the organization is for active members to acquaint new residents with the McHenry area socially and civically, helping them to know the community and the com­ munity to know them. This past year, Shari Weakman, Elizabeth Loughan and Chris Sonnichsen have served the Club well as president, vice- president and secretary- treasurer. Finally, Social Chairman Marilyn Bisiewicz and associate Nancy John have planned a Couples Bowling Night, tentatively scheduled for the last weekend in March. Club To View Shoe Fashions The McHenry county Christian Women's club will be having a luncheon March 14 from noon to 2:30 p.m. at T. C. Spirits, Crystal Lake. A special attraction of the luncheon will be an unusual fashion show, featuring the latest in fashions for the feet. Anna Hartokolis, music chairman for the Waukegan Zion Christian Women's club, will provide music for the occasion. A Mount Prospect homemaker and mother of three teenagers, Jan Bier- bower, will be the speaker of the day. There is a nursery provided at the Crystal Lake Evangelical free church. The ' members of the Auxiliary to McHenry hospital are busy with preparations for this year's "Spring House Walk" which will once again benefit McHenry hospital. The auxiliary, through various fund raising events last year, contributed $27,000 to the hospital. This money has been used to refurbish and refurnish the majority of the rooms of the hospital. A certain amount also went toward scholarships. The "Spring House Walk" will be held Sunday, May 6, from noon to 5 p.m. Six home owners have graciously offered their homes to be shown on the house tour, and each home is very distinctive in its style and its furnishings. The fashions will feature the latest spring ensembles for women and children and will benefit the young dance company based in McHenry county. Fashions will be provided by the Toddler Shop, McHenry, among others. There will be a cocktail hour beginning at 11:15, luncheon at 12:15 and then the fashion show, which will also include dancing by some of the members of the company and by Judith Svalander, the artistic director. The group has been working hard these past several months to raise money for a possible performing tour of Sweden this summer. They have been invited as the representatives of young midwestern talent. All proceeds from this fashion show go to benefit this non­ profit company which has tried to establish a talent base for young McHenry county performers. Veterans of Foreign Wars 5th District convention were elected at the March meeting of the Ladies Auxiliary to Veterans of Foreign Wars post 4600. The members named delegates are Renne Jende, Gerry Kuck, Vi Abbink, Ila Hogan, Mary Fergen, Lucille Garifi, Eva Snell, Barbara Bryniarski, Mary Kuemmel, Phyllis Harper and Edna Olson. Alternate delegates also were elected. They are Barbara Karaskiewicz, Dora Krocker, Claudette Kennedy, Mary Amore, Frances Nells, Sally breakfast following in the Legion hall. The auxiliary charter was draped in memory of Helen Wegener who died on Feb. 3 National Home and Child Welfare chairman Mary Amore, stated that the National home has room for children and they are in need of house parents or mothers. Ms Amore more is collecting soup labels which are being donated to Richmond and Montini grade schools. The auxiliary can be contacted for more information on the labels. Veterans administration hospital chairman stated that the auxiliary had received $105 monetary credit for jewelry and booties donated to Veterans Administration Medical center, North Chicago. Following a discussion, it was decided that the auxiliary will sponsor a spaghetti supper, with proceeds going to support the hospital general fund. Ila Hogan, hospital chair­ man, read a list of needed items for the hospital. Personal items include men's clothing, shoes, comfort items for men and women, denture cleaners and holders, toothpaste and brushes, deodorants, after­ shave lotions, shoelaces, handkerchiefs, combs, electric shavers, soaps, panty hose for the women, bobby pins, hair spray and shower caps. The manual arts therapy items needed are plastic flowers, yarn, used candles, fabric scraps, leather, felt scraps, old jewelry, old art magazines, knitting and embroidery needles, threads, twine, used stamps, margarine tubs, paints, cigar boxes and large shells. Cancer chairman, Renne Jende, stated that auxiliary had reached the quota of $2 per member as set by National auxiliary for cancer aid and research- She urged members to have an annual check-up.
