They had a lovely candlelight ceremony and the girls received their World Association pins. Parents were invited to attend. The girls are also working on a scrapbook of all their past^ family celebrated Girl Scout week by helping needy children over­ seas. They collected their dues for one month and gave it to a charitable organization. They also collected enough canned goods to make a complete meal including dessert, which they donated to FISH for a needy Cultural practices, ways to organize a garden exhibit as well as getting vegetables ready for an exhibit will be some of the areas discussed at t h e M c H e n r y C o u n t y 4 - H Gardening workshop. The workshop will be at the Farm Bureau auditorium from 2 to 4 p.m. Saturday, March 24. The workshop should be of particular interest to any younp person who exhibits vegetables or has questions he would like a n s w e r e d c o n c e r n i n g vegetables. This program is open to the public and is free of charge. For more information about the youth programs in McHenry county, contact the University o f I l l i n o i s C o o p e r a t i v e E x ­ tension service in Woodstock. Swing Choir To Perform events to earn their Brownie B patch, these books will make a nice keepsake for the girls. Brownie Troop No. 480 celebrated Girl Scout Thinking day by giving their ten new girls their World association pins. They also had one of the mothers speak about her homeland. Mrs. Starke talked about life in Thailand, about the country and its customs. She also taught the girls a dance and how to say goodbye. The girls were also treated to cookies made from seaweed. Sounds like a very interesting day. Brownie Troop N. 464, the new Brownie troop, was busy for Girl Scout Thinking day. They held a lovely candlelight ceremony. Proud parents watched as the Brownies received their World association pins. The girls have also been busy making pecan mice for the Valley View Fun fair. Sounds like they already have a good start. For Girl Scout week March 11-17 a local restaurant displayed the new Girl Scout emblem. Brownie Troop No. 150 Junior Troop No. 410 went on a couple of outings recently. They went to McHenry Printing Co. and to McHenry Floral to see how to transplant and to see some floral arranging. In March they are going to make complete meal to earn their cook's badge. Junior Troop No. 320 is also busy working on some badges. They are working on their pen pal and their toymaker badges. They are making yard dolls for the Girl Scout Nickel day. Maybe the girls will keep on corresponding even after the pen pal badge is done. Cadette Troop No. 41 had gym night March 21 at Parkland school. They played basketball and volleyball. A girl from the Cadette troop will be going to South Carolina this summer on the Wider Op­ portunities program. Linda Schmitt was accepted. Linda "also went to Sybaquay Senior conference March 10 and 11. She said it was very interesting and she enjoyed herself. The versatile and exciting Newcomers Swing choir from Western Illinois university at Macomb will be appearing in Crystal Lake Saturday, March 24, at 8 p.m. The program will take place at Crystal Lake S o u t h h i g h s c h o o l . 1 2 0 0 S . M - cHenry avenue. The group has been an am-, bassador group for Western, h a v i n g b e e n c r e a t e d e i g h t y e a r s a g o t o e n t e r t a i n a t university functions. They have now expanded their horizons to include appearances at political inaugurations, state conventions, workshops, school assemblies, and performances with such people as Bob Hope and Burl Ives.
