More than half the homeowners remodeling with aluminum siding, for example, are turning to color instead of traditional white. Properly installed, pre- finished siding can actually enhance the charm of an older house rather than di- " minish it. When installed skillfully, it is virtually im­ possible to distinguish from wood without going up and touching it. Pre-finished siding comes in vinyl plastic, hardboard and steel, in addition to the traditional aluminum, but none of the others offers the same choice of colors and textures as aluminum. Vinyl plastic, only recently introduced, is available in a limited range of colors. With steel, weather may rust the exposed edges of the siding. Once you've made the decision to invest in alu­ minum siding--in the 30 years since its introduction more than 11,000,000 home- owners have done so -- spend just a little more and select the insulated kind because the added cost will usually be offset by fuel sav­ ings.
