NuTone SUPPLEMENT TO McHENRY PLAINDEALER - PAGE 9 -FRIDAY, MARCH 23,1979 Certified cabinets -- great kitchen helpers Ever wonder where your next door neighbor finds the time for her morning jog, game of tennis or the latest novel? Organizing your time to in clude some of your favorite things is no small feat. In fact, it takes careful plan ning. Ours is a world of devices. Take the kitchen for exam ple. Perhaps nowhere in the house have more improve ments been made. Getting your kitchen to work for you is smart man agement. Consider the time saved with a food processor chopping up the ingredients you need to make that special Chinese dish you're so proud of. Think of the extra time a self-cleaning oven gives you. Imagine the time gained in locating, without the aid of a road map, that crepe pan you know you have -- some where. Kitchen cabinets offer an easy way to stay organized and at the same time conceal the tools of theftrade. If your kitchen lacks adequate stor age space, why not consider the advantages of kitchen remodeling. When shopping for kitchen cabinets you may be im pressed by their beauty. The convenience they afford will be obvious. But how can you be sure you are buying dura bility as well? Look for the blue and white certification seal of the National Kitchen Cabinet Association. It is this seal, usually found on the inside of a cabinet dopr or drawer, that leads the way to cabinets that have been tested for durabil ity, stain resistance and low maintenance. To qualify for the seal, cabinets have to meet the tough construction and per formance standards of the American National Stan dards Institute (ANSI). The sparkling news about water filters A water softener produces water that's best for launder ing, dishwashing and bath ing. For water that's best for drinking or cooking, you need a water filter. Over 99% of the water produced by a community waterworks is used for such things as sprinkling lawns, fighting fires and flushing away wastes. Less than 1% is used for drinking or cooking. That's why it doesn't makfe economic sense for your waterworks to treat all water to drinking water quality, and why filtering is best done in the home. More tips on how you can get your kitchen to work overtime for you can be found in "Kitchen & Bath Planning," an illustrated booklet available for 35 cents from the National Kitchen Cabinet Association, Box 2978, Grand Central Station, New York. N.Y. 10017. An activated carbon filter is everyone's choice for re moving tastes and odors, in cluding chlorine. You'll save money by combining it with a "pre-filter." The pre-filter removes sediment that otherwise might quickly clog the carbon. A carbon filter that at taches to a faucet has limited capacity. Better is a larger unit, like the Culligan Super-Gard. It's installed under the sink, or in an adja cent space, and offers effi ciency, durability and all the water you need. You can even hook it up to supply your automatic ice maker. U.S. Government and state authorities recommend carbon filtration, but few community systems are equipped to provide it. If you want this water improve ment, you must provide it yourself.
