PAGF 7 - PLAINDEALER - FRIDAY, MARCH 23,1978 Annual CROP Hunger Walk April &; Play Ball! As the snow continues to melt outside, the McHenry Warrior baseball team works inside the gym at West campus in preparation for their first game next Saturday, March 31, at McCracken field. Under the direction of Coach Ken Swanson, the team members go through a variety of drills aimed at improving the team's fundamentals and prepare them for the outdoors, when the team will get down to the nuts and bolts of baseball, hitting, fielding and pitching. West campus has been the scene of constant activity after school, as all the spring sport participants have been working out, in anticipation of moving outside in a few days. STAFF PHOTO-JOE DEHN Johnsburg Seeks Admission To Lake Vocational Center There was unanimous ap proval by the board of John sburg School District 12 Tuesday night to seek ad mission to the Lake County Area Vocational center. As the discussion developed, advantages to mtember&hip were pointed up, particularly to having a local board member on that vocational center board. Steve Pollock, Vocational teacher at Johnsburg, said there would be about 17 students interested in par ticipation. It was noted, that next year Johnsburg will have its own body and automotive repair center, but other areas of vocational training would require large expenditures for the small number who are interested. One of these, he said, is complicated computer programs. Ohe of the reasons for the interest outside this county was expressed as the belief that a vocational center is highly unlikely in McHenry county for the foreseeable future. The cost ,to join the Lake county center was estimated at between $56,000 and $58,000. The home now under con struction by the Vocational students at Johnsburg will be completed soon and Pollock said should be ready to sell before the start of another school year. A report from the Building and Grounds committee was made by Dr. Kenneth Falkinham, business manager, who explained that set-back permission had been received from the state for the new vocational wing that will be added on the west. A previous error at the time the original building was constructed made it necessary to ask for per mission because of a required set-back from the road. A proposed north wing will be used for classrooms and. multipurpose. In this connection, the final sale of bonds in the amount of $730,000 was announced for April 10. Some discussion took place concerning the immunization program in the school system, with 90 percent compliance reported. Administrators noted the confusion in meeting dif ferent guidelines set by the state and federal government. Because of added difficulties with families moving in and out of the district, they felt the 90 percent figure was satisfac tory. Some discussion was held on the possibility of a conversion from electric to gas heating because of the high cost of heating thus far this year. A desire was expressed for a separate meter for heating because the one now in use also includes other utilities. Commonwealth Edison company will make a study, after which members will make a decision. Announcement was made that a class of advanced maneuvers for bus drivers will be conducted in the interest of safety. This will be held in April. Institute day will be held March 30. There was a general pride expressed by members over the excellent showing of the basketball team, extended to include coaches and all others associated with this activity. That pride was boosted by announcement that no first year school team had ever advanced farther in com petition in the state of Illinois. mil Building Permits Building permits recently issued by the Department of Building and Zoning for McHenry County include: Bill and Trudy Mertens of 906 W. City Acts To Update Plan VILLAGE OF HOLIDAY HILLS COUNTY OF McHENRY ILLINOIS ) LEGAL NOTICE Let it be known that the Village of Holiday Hills, county of McHenry, Illinois, will hold a primary election April 17, 1979. The purpose of this election to elect three Board of Trustee members for a four year term, and to elect a President to fill the remaining two years of a four term. The election poll will be held at 1514 Sunset Drive, in the Village of Holiday Hills. Polls will be open from 6:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. Phyllis Bryan Village Clerk (Pub. March 23, 1979) The City Council voted Monday night to enter into a contract with Associated Planners of Northbrook to update the city's com prehensive plan. Planning Commission Chairman Jack Pepping ad dressed the Council and in dicated the commission had asked three firms to present proposals for updating the plan. He reported the commission was in unanimous agreement that Associated Planners be hired to complete the project. "The plan is in need of up dating," Pepping explained. It was prepared in 1970 and testimony at recent zoning hearings by expert witnesses has indicated the plan is out dated. Bob Grossman, of the Nor thbrook firm, explained Associated Planners was familiar with McHenry and presented a proposal for the updating of the plan. According to the proposal, "This planning program is designed to bring together materials and proposals from a variety of sources, to undertake inventories and analysis steps, and to revise the com prehensive plan to reflect community goals and current needs." The program is divided into two steps and will take a year to complete. The cost of the project is estimated at $15,600, but ac cording to Grossman, the cost could be lower, depending on the work required. He told the Council the price will not be higher. He indicated frequent meetings will be held with city officials and staff members and public hearings will be held for input into the plan. The Council voted unanimously to enter into the contract. RTA officials spoke before the Council Monday night, indicating that some form of a dial-a-ride plan is going to be instituted in McHenry. A 30-nriinute movie was shown \rhich highlighted programl\ currently in operation cities similiar in size to McHenry. Officials explained the service was in. the planning stages and would be fully funded by the RTA. The RTA officials will work with the city to negotiate the design of the service and its price. It could be in operation by the fall of this year. Two final plats were ap proved by the Council. Final plats for the Martin Woods subdivision and McHenry Lakes Estates were unanimously accepted, pending the receipt of irrevocable letters of credit from the developers to cover the cost of improvements in the sub divisions. Superintendent Fred Meyers was authorized to advertise for bids to extend the water line on Washington street. The project will be' un-> dertaken this summer, when;I the major renovation of ~ Washington street takes place.
