/ PAGE 3 - PI.AINDI AI.ER - FRIDAY, MARCH 30, lt7» SENIOR CITIZEN'S CORNER, HELPFUL IDEAS FOR SUCCESSFUL RETIREMENT The lovely modern home of Mr. and Mrs. Donald Rufflri, located at 1806 Cassandra drive, McHenry, reflects a taste for advanced design balanced with a love of rustic surroundings. It is among the Contemporary Design In Woodland Setting gracious and unusual group of residences chosen to please those participating in the Auxiliary to McHenry hospital's second Spring House Walk. The V/z year old rustic modern home of Mr. and Mrs. Don Ruffin, 1806 Cassandra drive, McHenry, attracts the attention immediately by means of its unique entryway, a redwood bridge to its front door. Upon entering, one notices the atmosphere of openness. The feeling of spaciousness is heightened by a floor plan centered around a suspended staircase, separating kitchen and dining area from living room. Because of this unique layout, Diane Ruffin is able to entertain and enjoy her guests while cooking in her gourmet kitchen. Among the con veniences at her fingertips are both conventional and microwave ovens, and a smoothe, heat-proof glass cooking top which provides ease of cleaning. The cook top has a charcoal grill which is interchangeable with a pan cake griddle. In the center is a butcher block, over which is hung an array of copper cooking utensils. Because the dining area and living room adjoin a cedar deck by way of thermopane doors, a view of the outdoors adds to the openness and enjoyment. Two of the four bedrooms in the home are on the main floor and one is in the lower level.
