Main & Prairie (Rear) Crystal Lake Queen Contest Still Heads Events Of Fair Communities throughout McHenry county again are being invited to participate in the McHenry County Fair through one of the fair's most exciting crowd-pleasing events, the Miss McHenry County pageant. Don Peasley, public relations coordinator for the fair, said the new lineup of attractions at the fair maintains the Miss McHenry County contest as the opening night feature. Several events^are being shifted during the five-day fair, beginning Wednesday, August 1, but the competition featuring beauties from a dozen or more com munities is "firmly en trenched" as the leadoff night attraction. Peasley said all of last year's sponsors of local candidates are being invited to participate in the McHenry County page- anj. Each local community must select one candidate for the county competition, and the preceding year's local sponsors have first choice on the right to sponsor a local contest and to determine the format of the local selection, Peasley ex plained. The reigning Miss McHenry County is Suzette Rezab, from Algonquin, She represented McHenry County Fair association at the 1979 Miss Illinois County Fair com petition in January. Deadline for entries in this 1979 Miss McHenry County pageant has been set for 5 p.m., Sunday, July 1. Detailed rules and entry forms will be sent sponsors upon confirmation of their participation this year. Girls must be at least 16 by this August 1. Debbie Walters, instructor from a well knwon sewing center will be the featured speaker. The program begins at 7:30 p.m. and will be held at the Farm Bureau building in Woodstock. Tailoring a garment does not mean merely constructing a garment from a wool or wool blend fabric. In order to tailor, you must "mold" the fabric using steam, stitching and interfacing to form the gar ment. Selecting fabric, lining and interling fabrics will be discussed. The construction techniques to be demonstrated include: pad stitching lapels and collars, shoulder pads, making bound buttonholes, and using different pieces of pressing equipment to achieve a "professional look". Questions you have will be answered too. The clinic is designed to help 4-H'ers enrolled in the Tailoring project and is open to anyone else who would like to attend.
