I VThe Sox finally turned Ron Blomberg loose after a gamble mat cost a bushel of money. r v We saw Ron in camp and saw Him work mighty hard to get in shape Must say he didn't look too sharp with the bat in spite of that being his long suit. A big, long term contract may make dfcher clubs shy away. The Sox will have to pay unless some club takes them off the hook. ;The experts aren't picking either the Cubs or Sox to near t&e top of the heap this year. It tfoks like one more strong (gtcher could put the Cubs in tgood position. % • -- * As for the Sox, I still wish »y had one fence buster, and classy defense are a joy to behold, but one smash over the wall often breaks up a ball game. It may be too late to make a good deal, but I'll bet a dollar to a doughnut that Bill Veeck will swing some kind of a deal before long. April Fool's Day came and went without incident in our house. Just checked the calendar and the day is listed as All Fool's Day. That seems to take in a lot of territory. Grandma had a standard fooler and used it on her grandchildren as they came along and before they became wary of her tricks. She had a driving horse, sometimes known as a buggy horse, so each year she would send the kids scampering to see "Bird's new colt". Of course, old Bird knew nothing about a blessed event. _ Reading that interesting book of yesteryear from Judge Herrmann, the writer relates how straw went through a blower from the threshing machines to form a curved stack. Yep. I remember. Some of you farmers will go back farther when the straw came out on a carrier. Farmers really stacked their straw in those days. Holes in the concrete are going to play havoc with tires and shock absorbers this year. Talk about going down to China. This is the year when it can happen.
