Barts, USMC retired, 5215 Hunter drive, McHenry, has returned for a well deserved leave after spending one year as a Marine security guard at the American Embassy, Moscow USSR. David enlisted in the Marines in August of 1976 at the Marine barracks, Portsmouth Naval Shipyard, Portsmouth, N.H., where his father was com pleting his career of 22 years. David had a surprise for his parents when he returned to McHenry. He brought with him Miss Marina Franza of Nice, France, who was working at the American Embassy, Moscow, as a nanny and was involved in tutoring young children of the diplomatic corps. After his leave, the young Marine will report to the American Embassy, Paris, France, for a one-year assignment. Special Veterans ad ministration efforts to alert Vietnam era veterans to unused GI Bill education benefits, begun last year, are tJeing expanded to a nationwide campaign in 1979. The a w a r e n e s s p r o g r a m , "Operation Boost," had focused on 11 states where GI Bill participation was under 50 percent. Hurricane sets sail for "Fantasy Islands". Scheduled for two consecutive weekends-April 20-21 and 27-28- -•Hurricane Happening-79' promises to offer a variety of entertainment and fun and features on stage the talents of individuals from across the county. The annual event is held at Marian Central Catholic high school in Woodstock. to raise funds to help defray costs of the school's educational program. Eight different variety shows will be featured at this year's "Happening", all revolving around the central theme, "Fantasy Islands". Live music from the big band era highlight the show on Manhatten Island, while the Andrews Sisters will return for an engagement on Guam Island. Featured at the British Isles will be Scottish, Irish and English ballads while the Hartland Express will entertain at Devil's Island. Besides three other theme rooms, there will be a Disco Room and Coney Island for food. Doors open at 7:15 p.m. on each night. The weird noises and tiny critters of the night will be explored during a Spring Pond Experience conducted by the McHenry County Conservation district April 12 at 7 p.m. In terpretive Naturalist Chuck Hudson will explain the various creatures that live a short, frantic life in a temporary spring pond. Salamanders, frogs, fairy shrimp and whirligig beetles are some of the life forms that will be collected.
