Rick Waktisch and Doug Freund. both .500 plus batters along with Greg Freund and Tom Les provide the Bridge with potent firepower. Add starters Tim Althoff, John Pitzen and Dave Schaefer along with the league's best hitting benchwarmer', Gary Gilpin and you have a mur­ derers row second to none'! One possible setback to the Bridge 1979 pennant drive will be the loss of shortstop Ron Miller. Miller, who was sent to the Rusty nail for a first round draft pick in 1980 plus 2 players to be named later, batted .540 last year and in some book is the best shortstop in the league Dehn stated a week before opening day that they were "still undecided as to who will play short" although Doug Freund, Ron Lentine and Joe Dehn may all get a shot at the position before the season is over.
