A year of hard work for all students and teachers was culminated with a procession into church and then attendance at the 10 a.m. Mass. Each class selected one -person to bring a" CCD book, representing what that class studied during the year, up to the altar during the Offertory. One flower from each class was also placed before a statue of the Blessed Virgin. The beautiful voices of the children could • be heard throughout the Mass singing the songs they had learned during their classes. The CCD teachers hosted a potluck dinner. YOUNG AT HEARTS The Young At Hearts had a good attendance for their May 2 meeting with twenty-six members present. A collection was taken up to be given to the Wonder Lake rescue squad in remembrance of Flora Alhgrim, a member who passed away. "Happy Birthday" was sung to Carl Kowar and Catherine Omerzo who have May bir thdays. Plans are being made for a bake sale to take place the early part of June. The proceeds would be put into a general fund enabling the members to take advantage of bus trips during the summer months. The next meeting of the Young At Hearts will be May 15 at Christ the King church hall, beginning at 11 a.m. BANK MEETING Mr. Herbert Franks, director, and Mr. Stephen Mitchell, president of the organizing Wonder Lake State bank were the principal speakers at the open meeting held May 2. Mr. Franks gave a little history behind the forming of the bank. He said the idea entered the minds of several people back in 1970. First, a federal \.nk was thought about, but eventually, a state bank was the final choice. On March 27, the organizers received word that it was ap proved for organization. Mr. Mitchell told of a feasibility study done for the organizers by the Continental bank of Chicago. The results were that a bank would definitely be successful in Wonder Lake and that one should have been opened years ago. As soon as the remaining shares of stock are sold, remodeling will begin which could be completed in two weeks, and then the doors could be opened. The Wonder Lake State bank will be a full service bank handling all the needs of the community. - TO ALL MOMS Happy Mother's Day to all Moms and those extra special ladies, Grandmothers. Having a super Mom. as I do, I appreciate a day set aside especially to show her how much she means to me. Being a Mom, I also know there doesn't have to be a day set aside for recognition. Just looking at a smiling face when a par^of-cffocolate chip cooki are brought out of the oven, or to hearing your son tell the guys they can play ball in his back yard because his Mom always likes kids around. Or to see the little seven year old who has been trying to be one of the big guys all day, cuddled in bed with his teddy bear tightly held in his arm. Being a Mom is special every day! Instead o! burning scarce luels. the heat pump uses electricity to capture heat trom a limitless energy source The sun Even on cloudy cold winter days there's still solar heat in the air The heat pump captures this heat and pumps it to where it can be used It's the most practical etlicient heating and cooling system you can install today And it's dramatically changing the way we use energy Turns heat energy outside in and inside out. The same principle that makes the heat pump work is already at work in your home inside your retrigerator In tact, a heat pump is a lot like a retrigerator There's an indoor unit that consists ol a coil and tan There s an outdoor unit that consists ol a coil, tan and compressor Piping connects them Inside the system, a retngerant circulates carrying the heat trom inside out and outside in In winter, the retngerant in the outdoor coil absorbs solar heat, is compressed and pumped inside The heat comes out to keep you warm The warmer the outdoor temperature, the more heat there is to be translerred I The eneigy-smart heal pump is Installed on the outside of the home and is about the same size as a conventional cential air conditioning unit But as the temperature goes down there's less heat available The heat pump is then automatically supplemented with electric resistance heaters In summer, the process is reversed Warm air inside the home is blown over the indoor coil The retngerant absorbs this heat is pumped outside then condensed The heat comes out. leaving you cool And the unit tilters the air and de humidities, too © Commonwealth Edison Working lor you Produces more energy than it uses. Unlike systems that merely use up energy to make heal, the heat pump uses electricity to produce more energy than it uses Over the entire winter season a heat pump plus the supplemental heaters provide at least 1 5 units of heat energy lor every equivalent unit ol electricity used It's this extra energy bonus that makes the heat pump a smart investment The initial cost is a little higher But the operating cost is lower So in the long run. the heat pump can help save How to get one.
