The league's basis for its in formation is the experience of breastfeeding mothers and a medical advisory board. The Nutrition Committee of the American Academy of Pediatrics now recommends that all healthy, full-term babies be breastfed. Breast milk is believed to be uniquely suited to the nutritional need of the human infant, helping to provide protection while the infant's immune system is developing, and eliminating allergy to milk from a foreign source Breastfeeding is felt to be the most natural way of satisfying the needs of a baby: nourishment and loving, physical contact Ideally, the breastfeeding relationship continues until the baby outgrows it.
