The group's annual picnic will take place Monday, July 23. in Petersen park, and more details will be available as plans are made firm. Bill Lamont will be taking reservations for the June 26 trip to the ball game. There are nine openings left, and tickets must be paid for at the next meeting. There are also more places available for the trip to Shady Lane. It has been suggested program that airs on 11 at 6:30 p.m. daily i£ most informative for senior citizens. The next meeting of the Wonder Lake Senior Citizens club is Monday, May 21, which is blood pressure day. Speaker for the meeting will be Mr. Jim Collins, a pharmacist in McHenry. Spring Lunch At Mount Hope "Hats Off to Spring" is the theme for the annual Spring Luncheon sponsored by Mount Hope United Methodist Women on Thursday, May 24 at noon. Fund Raiser By Garden Club The "Whispering Oaks Garden Club" is busy planning its annual spring plant sale, this year to be held on Satur­ day, May 26 at the community center, 4513 Front Royal drive, McHenry. Hours are 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Featured this year will be choice geraniums in red, coral or white, excellent houseplants, and a variety of perennials. This is the annual fund raiser for the club that just a year ago, received an award for civic improvement from "Garden Club of Illinois" federation. May 10 at the community house, as they made final plans for their Spaghetti Dinner on May 27. TTie Spaghetti Dinnere will be served from noon to 4 p.m. Tickets can be obtained from any club member, or reser­ vations can be made by calling Sharon Gacek or Lynda Radisch. Plans were discussed regarding the "Flea Market" to be held at the community house on June 23, and also for the annual community picnic. Because of so much activity, the club will hold meetings in July and August. > The nominating committee chairlady, Lyda Radisch, was accorded the honor of installing the officers-elect. They are Shirley Koch, president; Barbara Burke, treasurer; Sharon Gacek, secretary; and Frances Kostka, registrar. Two new members, Susie Danielson and Bernelle Lovett, were also initiated and welcomed into bership. Shirley Koch is the Spaghetti Dinner. Sponge Cake 1 c flour V* t salt Grated rind Vi lemon l'/j T lemon juice 1 c sugar 5 eggs. 1. Measure all ingredi­ ents. Sift sugar through a fine sifter one to four times before measuring, then sift four times. 2. Beat egg whites until stiff but not dry, beat in grad­ ually 1 tablespoon sugar for each egg white (out of sugar called for in recipe) and set aside. 3. Beat egg yolks until thick and lemon colored. Beat in remaining sugar. 4. Combine yolks and whites. 5. Mix remaining dry in­ gredients and cut and fold into egg mixture. Do not beat after adding flour. 6. Do not grease pan. Bake in tube pan in an oven 325 degrees for an hour. If in layer cake pans or individual tins, bake 25 to 30 minutes in an oven 350 degrees. About Your Wedding... RONALD SCHUSTER HOME IN WAUKEGAN - Following a February wedding in St. Andrew's Lutheran church, Mundelein, Mr. and Mrs. Ronald Schuster are making their home in Waukegan. The bride, the former Cheryl A. Peterson, is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Jack R. Peterson, 285 Lincoln, Mundelein. The groom's parents are Mr. and Mrs. Earl Schuster, 4607 E. Lake Shore drive, Wonder Lake. After the ceremony, a reception was held for 160 guests at the American Legion hall in Ivanhoe. The bride, who graduated from Mundelein high school and Sawyer Business college, is a secretary for the diagnostics division of Abbott Labs. A 1973 graduate of McHenry high school, the groom works for Commonwealth Edison at the Zion nuclear plant. A June 9 wedding is planned in the Pilgrim Congregational church, Oak Park. Large Group Enjoys Senior "Spring Fling One hundred and ninety-four members of the McHenry Senior Citizens club had a "wing ding" at their buffet dinner, "Spring Fling" Mon­ day, May 14, at the West Campus cafeteria. Betty Tuft, social chairlady, and com­ mittee were complimented on the delicious food and table decorations. A lucky person at each table received the flower and plant decoration. No business meeting was held, but announcements of past and coming events were highlighted. John Doerr, tour chairman, reported the huge success of the Wayne King concert and the dinner-theater trip to the Fireside Restaurant at Fort Atkinson. Also, two bus loads of Seniors attended the annual bowling banquet at the Blue Canary in Milwaukee recently and were enthusiastic about the food, dancing and fun. Mr. Doerr advised that the baseball trip to Cub's Park on June 26 is filled, but there are a few tickets available for the Milwaukee-Brewer's game on June 16. Please contact Ruth Fradell if interested. Members were given details of the annual picnic to be held on July 14 at the Johnsburg Community club picnic area starting at noon. The club will furnish the beverages and members are to bring their own lunch, eating utensils and table and chairs. John Doerr is finalizing plans for a trip to Arlington Racetrack on July 17, which will include lunch and the races, and a lunch-boat trip to Lake Geneva on August. 16. New Senior Bowlers Gather Each Monday "Happy Youngsters" is the name selected for the new senior citizens bowling group, started Monday, May 7. This "Happy Youngsters" group will meet every Monday at 1 p.m. at the local bowling lanes for an afternoon of fun and fellowship. It does not make a bit of difference whether you are a good bowler or a beginner, you are most welcome. This is a n o n - c o m p e t i t i v e g r o u p , organized for fun and exercise. Senior citizens from McHenry county, both ladies and men fifty-five years old and older, are invited. This is good exercise and good therapy for older persons. The group is growing, and any further information can be obtained by calling Frank Giel. which is not a toll call. "MAKE TODAY COUNT" Sunday, May 20, at 2:30 p.m., the first meeting of the McHenry county chapter of "Make Today Count" will take place in the First United Methodist church of Wood­ stock. MTC is for people, relatives and friends who are facing possibly terminal illnesses, and the professionals who communicate with the terminally ill.
