Nutrition Plan Serves Millions Since its start in 1973 the national nutrition program for hot, nutritious meals to persons aged 60 and over has reached most parts of the country. Today it comprises 1,100 nutrition projects serving meals at 10,681 sites. About 135 million meals were served in the 1978 fiscal year under this program, an increase of about 35 percent over the previous year. The Administration on Aging program emphasizes socializing and services as well as nutrition, and they may be as important an inducement as the meal itself. The services most often include tran sportation, escort and in formation and referral ser vices, and sometimes extend into recreation, educational and health-related services. Nationwide, about 17 percent of the meals last year were home-delivered to persons who cannot leave their homes because of limited mobility or other problems. In our county, there are eight Meet and Eat sites in the Senior Citizen nutrition program. These centers served 23,681 meals October through April. The noon meal is served at the centers and a relaxed friendly atmosphere welcomes all seniors. Donations are ac cepted for the meal; no amount is too great or too small. / w Grace Vyduna, left, and Martha Finkbeiner inspect the tote bags that Johnsburg Junior Johnsburg Junior high students Dan Holland high students made during their mini-class sessions.
