X GIRL | College H on o rs ] PAGE 5 - PLAlNDKALfe.il • WEDNESDAY, MAY 23.1979 SCOUTS • NICKEL DAY McHenry Girl Scouts were most pleased with the outcome of their Nickel day in the park, held on May 5. The excellent participation was appreciated. Brownie troop 407 held its first "Little Sister Day". They had seven kindergarten students present along with their mothers. The Brownies did a project, they also had treats, and played some games. Everyone had a very nice time. I'm sure those kindergartners can hardly wait till next year when they can join the Brownies. * Brownie troop 415 made fuzzy bunnies from cotton balls. They are also making sit upons and hot dog cookers for their fly up. These girls have also been busy working on their world of people badge. Sounds like they have been pretty busy. Brownie troop 211 spent some of its hard earned money, earned from cookie sales, to treat themselves to a day of fun at the roller rink. On May 19 they will visit a conservation area for a nature scavenger hunt. Each girl will receive a scavenger list, and will try to find such things as a bird's nest, an oak leaf, deer tracks and more. On May 26, they will have a father' and daughter weenie roast to familiarize dads with the Brownie program. Sounds like some very interesting ideas these girls are doing, with the help of their leaders, of course. Brownie troop 408 and troop 402 will take the third grade Brownie troop camping on Mayl8,19 nd 20. Hopefully, they will have some nice weather for their campout. Brownie troop 480 had a cookout at Shabbona hills with troops 88 and 150. Though the weather was a bit chilly, everyone enjoyed the ex perience of preparing a meal and hiking about the Girl Scout campgrounds. Also on May 10, troop 480 went on a hay ride, after which they had a cookout. Another busy troop enjoying the out-of-doors. Junior troop 410 will be in viting the Brownies from troop 210 to join them in a night of fun and games. Troop 410 will also be going out for pizza. Then on May 24, the parents are invited to the meeting. They will be passing out badges that the girls have earned and the new girls will receive their pins. On May 31, troop 410 will be making favors for the Fourth of July holiday to give to the folks at a nursing home. Sounds like they will be having a very busy month. It's nice to see the girls thinking of the people in the nursing home on days other than Christmas, Easter and Thanksgiving. Junior troop 88 will be demonstrating some of the skills they have learned to their sister Brownie troops 150 and 480. Then, on May 29 they will have their fly-up ceremony for troops 150 and 480. Sounds like the Juniors will be keeping those Brownies very busy. Cadette troop 41 went out for a night of bowling and pizza. These girls have also been busy working on some of their badges, and on Cadette >nges. On May 9, they will be having a nurse come to teach /them some basic first aid. Some of the Cadettes went on a campout where they earned their Challenge of Emergency Preparedness pins. These girls worked very hard to fill all the requirements needed for the challenge. They have also been busy making vests to put their badges on after they have earned them. On May 16, they are inviting all interested Juniors to come to their meeting. They will teach them a new song, work on some badge requirements. They have also made up some posters telling about the Cadettes. May 23, the girls are having a cookout for their parents. There will also be a treasure hunt and they will receive badges that they have earned. Another busy troop enjoying the outdoors. Scribe A Foolish Question Man at the gate: Is your mother home? Little boy: Say, you don't suppose I'm mowing the lawn because the grass is long do you? Some Knock The deaf old lady went to live near one of the naval ports. Shortly afterwards, a battleship fired a salute of 10 guns. The old lady, who lived alone, got out of her chair, smoothed her dress, patted her hair, and said sweetty, "Come in."
