Free Orthopedic Clinic SECTION 2 - PAGE 1 - PLAINDEALER - FRIDAY, JUNE 1,1®79 Saint Joseph hospital, Elgin, in cooperation with the Shriners, is holding a free orthopedic clinic for children in the northwest suburbs on Thursday, June 7 at the hospital. Area chairman of the Medinah Temple -hospital committee, Claude Hamlin said that the medical examinations will be conducted under the direction of Merle Denker, M.D., and other orthopedic surgeons, at no charge to the parents. If medical eligibility is established during this screening clinic, the child will be eligible to enter the Shriners Crippled Childrens hospital in Chicago for further examination. The hours for the screening clinic will be from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. Parents should bring a copy of the child's birth cer tificate. No appointments are necessary, and admission will be through the emergency room entrance. Shriners hospitals for Crippled Children are open to any child under 18-years-old, whose parents or guardians are unable to pay for the medical care offered. There is no charge to the patient, parent, or any third party for anything received at a Shriners hospital. Children, age one-month to 17-years, who need help with bone, muscle, and joint problems such as Cerebral Palsy, Scoliosis (S-curvature of spine), Osteogenesis Im perfecta (Brittle Bone disease), Spina Bifida, residuals of Polio, Juvenile Arthritis, Club Feet, congenital anomalies (missing limbs, dwarfism, and many other similar problems), will be screened at this free clinic. Box 205 • Crystal Lake, Illinois 60014 •(815) 459-2641 By Kathleen Thayer Helping Paws regretfully must tell all of you who cared enough to write letters to your representatives about HB 1362, that in spite of the temendous volume of mail recived on the animals' behalf, those representatives chose not to listen to gour pleas but rather voted in favor of the vested interests. Judging from letters received from our represen- Horse Show Set Political Corner FILES FOR PRESIDENT John B. Anderson (R-Ill.) filed his statement of can didacy papers for the office of President of the United States Friday, May 25, according to Anderson for President chairman, Frank Maggio. In his letter to the Federal Election commission, An derson noted that he would be making his formal declaration of candidacy at a June 8 dinner in his hometown. P U N C H L I N E O F T H E W E E K Horsemen will want to attend the Northern Illinois are Horse day, according to Craig Scheidecker, Extension Ad viser. The Boone county fairgrounds will host the one- day event on Saturday, June 2, sponsored by the University of Illinois Cooperative Extension Service. The Horse day will include a Youth Judging contest beginning at 8:30 a.m. This will include judging four halter classes and two riding classes. Ribbons will bepresented to the top ten contestants in both junior and senior divisions. Beginning at 9:30 a.m., discussions will be led by ex pert horsemen from the area. They will discuss mare care, first aid, and lower leg and feet care. Also, a farrier demon stration as well as showman ship and equitation demon strations under western, hunt seat, and saddle seat will round out the day. For detailed brochures, contact the McHenry County Extension office, at 224 W Judd street, Woodstock, or phone 815-338-3737. ART DEMONSTRATION Cary artist, Lou Taylor, will give a working demonstration of his style and watercolor technique at the June 6 meeting of the Cary Grove Artists association. The presentation will begin at 7:30 p.m. in the art rooms at McHenry County college, Route 14, Crystal Lake. Anyone wishing more in formation about this particular demonstration or the Artists association in general may call Mrs. Gerald E. (Carla) Fortier, 191 Edgewater drive, Crystal Lake. tatives, we feel that they had somehow been mislead and not being humanely oriented did not comprehend clearly the issues at stake. We choose to believe their error in judgment was an honest one. However, the damage is done. What angers HP workers more than anything else is that now, when we are already spread so very thin, we must act as watch dogs of the classroom. The only way now to combat the injustices which will soon be flooding the classrooms, is for you to call us as soon as your children report the abuses. Of course now that the law states that "no cruel ex periments may be performed" instead of "no experiments" at all may be performed, the burden of proof of what is "cruel" will fall on us. Now we must spend precious time and money in court to protect those who cannot protect themselves. We are angry, a step backward has been taken. Regardless of the intent of the house, the path is clearly established for us to follow. We are such a small organization, and try so very hard to do what we can, now we must try to right the many wrongs that will aoon occur just because a body of men would not listen and would not understand. Call the office to find out which of our legislatures saw fit to disregard your letters. On a lighter note, we will be having a booth at McCormick Park on Saturday and Sunday, June 2 and 3, in Crystal Lake, by the water tower on Route 14. Thp hours are from 10 to 5:30. Please come and visit our dis play. Proceeds from items on sale will be used as a fund raiser. We have a fantastic array of photo pet charms and other items which may be ordered. Please bring your photos with you. The gifts we have will be quality items...we need your help. Remember too that Crystal Lake Tag day is coming up June 16. Call the office if you would like to help 815-459-2641 or evenings 312-658-8389.
