The American Legion hall was the setting for a celebration after the Mass for 290 friends and relatives, and Entertainment was provided by the Steirer Club's Austrian itancers, a folk group. CD Of A Visits Vets Hospital The Wednesday, June 6. visit of the Joyce Kilmer McHenry court of Catholic Daughters to the North Chicago Veterans hospital coincided with the 35th anniversary of D day. Chairlady Bertilla Freund. with Laura Weber, Francis Widhalm, Bobby May, Oleva Clucas and drivers Clara Slegar and Cecelia Oakford were welcomed as they arrived with their sweetmeats by veteran Harry Carney. Each took a place among the vets for bingo playing conducted by Harry, who did a masterful Job of cheering his comrades as they won prizes. Volunteers Rose Lenck and Lucille Konz from the Waukegan based National Catholic Community service also joined in. Recreational therapist Cynthia Cook introduced Oleva Clucas whose Hawaiian guitar playing was enjoyed by the men during refreshment time. The next event of the court is the 6 p.m. potluck on June 21, and installation of new officers. An interim practice session is scheduled for June 19 at 7:30 p.m., also at the K C hall. Social hostess Lillian Bolger has Sue Wruck, Eleanor Strache, Marion Longfield, Helen Mauch, Florence Knox, Elvina Summers, Dorothy Miller and Olivia Hiller for committee aides. This very significant meeting will end the calendar year for previous officers and their successors will be installed. St. Clara Court Jo. 659 Plans approached the altar of Shepherd of the Hills Lutheran church, June 9, at 3:30 p.m., to exchange promises of marriage with Lanis Lynn Lenker, as Reverend Roger Schneider officiated. White glads and mums and Alburn Abbey rose baskets adorned the altar, and the ends of pews were festooned with white mums, ribbons and greens. Mrs. Evelyn Zvonar, McHenry, organist, provided the background for "Sunrise, Sunset", sung by Mr. and Mrs. David Boigenzahn, Lena, 111. Mr. Larry Rossi, Batavia, guitarist, played "The Wedding Song" and "The Lord's Prayer". Thr bride chose a chiffon over taffeta princess gown adorned with lace, featuring long sheer bishop sleeves. Lace flowers edged the hem of the gown and the finger tip veil. She carried white orchids on top of her Florence Nightingale Nurse bible with cascading Alburn Abbey roses. Maid of honor was Lee Tomlinson, sister of the bride, co-witnessing with matron of honor, Pam Umbarger. Bridesmaids were Linda Guinther, Orangeville, sister of the groom, and Marlene King, Orangeville, aunt of the groom. Jennifer Guinther, a niece of the groom, was the flowergirl. Attendants wore apricot floor length gowns of polyester with sheer floral capes. They carried arm bouquets of Alburn Abbey roses and greens, and wore babies' breath in their hair. Best man was William Guinther, Freeport. Groom­ smen were Duane Pins, Blaine, Minn.; Emil Goecks, Juda, Wise.; and Russell King, Orangeville, 111. Greg Schallenberger,Terry Martin and Dennis Gerbick were ushers. A floor length blue knit gown with blue lace jacket was chosen by the mother of the bride. The groom's mother wore a spring green formal pleated dress with white shawl. Hunter Country club was the setting for a reception for 250 guests who toasted the couple. Special guests were the bride's grandmother, Mrs. Clinton Martin, Florida, and Blanche Jacobs, Freeport, groom's aunt. The gift table was tended by Mrs. Jon Thetard, Bloomington, 111. Nikki Norton, Monticello, Wise., passed the guest book, and the Chi Omega sorority sisters, Shiela Beeson, Debbie Bastin and Cathi Harrah, took care of the punch table. The bride is a graduate of McHenry high school and the University of Evansville, Evansville, Ind., and works as a nurse at St. Clair hsopital, Monroe, Wise. The groom teaches at Lena-Winslow high school, having graduated from Orangeville high school and Upper Iowa university. Prenuptial showers were given in the home of the groom's aunt, Mrs. Russell King; in the home of the matron of honor, Pam Um­ barger; at the Lena-Winslqw high school, by the faculty; by her co-workers at St. Clair hospital; by the Monroe, Wise., Girl Scout troop; and by the state of Illinois SAE teachers organization. _jy< Trip To Holy Hill Former McHenry Women Married In Woodstock ST. Kitchen Band Plans Picnic Although the " McHenry Kitchen Band" disbanded several years ago, they have to get together each year, for fun and fellowship. The annual "Kitchen Band" Picnic is scheduled for Wed­ nesday, July 25 at Petersen Park. This will be a catered picnic, as it has always been a day with no work or bother, but just fun and pleasure. All members are requested to bring their Band Instruments so that all can have a good time entertaining just for the pleasure of members. There will be reminiscing about the good programs given over the many years of activity of travelling and performing for church groups, old peoples' homes, nursing homes, hospitals, clubs, and so on. Members have been advised as to date and location of pic­ nic, however, to make reser­ vations, contact Lyda Radisch. The group has the permit for the picnic and is hoping for good weather! For any further particulars call Lyda Radisch. June 9, was the date of the wedding of the former Mara E. Jones, a 1975 graduate of McHenry community high school, and David B. Wicklund of Rockford. The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. William O. Jones, 4602 Sunnyside road, Wood­ stock. Mr. and Mrs. Elroy L. Wicklund, 3843 Abbots.ford road, Rockford, are the parents of the groom. The First Evangelical Free church was the setting for the 2 p.m. ceremony at which Reverend Lareau Lindquist officiated, and the Unity Guitar group provided appropriate music. The bride wore her own mother's dress, a peau se soie creation, fashioned along princess lines with a Sabrina neckline and reembroidered lace on the bodice. The fingertip veil was set with pearls and brilliants. Joyce Johnson, Cherry Valley, 111., the sister of the groom, was the matron of honor. Deirdre Jones, Woodstock, sister of the bride, and Linda Hora, Neenah. Wise., were the bridesmaids. Attendants wore sleeveless, floor length A-line dresses with a blouson effect, designed in a dusty rose floral print on ivory. Dennis Wicklund, Rockford, brother of the groom, per­ formed the duties of the best man. Michael Michaud, Waukesha, Wise., and Doug Sutton, Rockford, were the groomsmen. The mother of the bride chose a raspberry floor length blouson-iook gown, with straight gathered waist. A lime colored full length dress with pleated skirt and matching belt was selected by the groom's mother. After the ceremony, a reception was held for 125 guests in the Sunshine hall of the church. The couple will reside in Rockford, after a trip to Niagara Falls. The bride, a 1979 graduate of Ripon college, is a machinist for Borg Warner corporation. The groom graduated from Rockford East high school and is currently a senior at Rock­ ford college. Senitr Walk-In Center Meals are served Monday through Friday at the McHenry Walk-In Center beginning at 11:45 a.m. Reservations must be made by 1:30 p.m. the day before at 385-8260. Dairy Council To Hold Anniversary Celebration Seven daughters of dairy farmers in McHenry county are taking an active part in the dairy promotional programs, sponsored this year as usual by the McHenry County Dairy Promotion council. The Dairy Promotion council is also sponsoring the Dairy Princess contest for the seven contestants, and that contest climaxes June 28 when the winner is announced at the Dairy Banquet at Richmond. Among the seven candidates is area resident Karen Spitzer, 17, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Ron Spitzer, Ringwood. She is being sponsored by McHenry county Health Improvement association. This year's promotional activities along with the Dairy Banquet has special significance this year. This is the 25th year for activities boosting dairy products under the McHenry County Dairy Promotion council banner. The Dairy Promotion council was formed in 1954 to coor­ dinate the promotional efforts of farmers, restaurant owners, store owners, school officials concerned about good nutrition in school luncheons, marketing cooperatives and farm organizations. Karrie Marunde, Woodstock, is the reigning Dairy Princess. She will represent the McHenry County Dairy Promotion council in the American Dairy association of Illinois Dairy Princess contest July 23-24 at Pekin. Judges for the McHenry county contest will be Mrs. Don Ellingsen, Poplar Grove; J. George Smith, Oswego; and Linda Drendel, Hampshire. Community- Calendar June 19: Baked hash, green salad with peas and cheese, stewed tomatoes, bread, apricots and milk. June 20: Fish squares with tartar sauce, baked potato, jello salad with shredded carrots, bread, plums and milk.
