The primary objective of the ASCS cost sharing program is to; 1--Provide incentive for landowners to carry out soil and water conservation practices; and 2--To encourage land users to carry out whole farm long term conservation plans. Practices such as con servation tillage, grassed waterways and terraces are some of the practices that are cost shared with the farmer on a specified rate to a maximun amount. For example, waterway that may cost $1,00 would be cost shared at 8 percent, which means th farmer would pay 20 percent o $200. The maximum any ir dividual could receive in on year is $3,500. If the project was cost share at a rate of 80 percent and th total project cost more tha $4,375. no more than $3,50 could lie paid. More information on the typ of practices available and th cost share rate can be obtaine at the ASCS office. Technic© assistance is provided by th Soil Conservation service.
