V Local Church Welcomes Jews For Jesus Speaker aessoaaatewoae IN YOUR GARDEN J« LOREN JACOBS Loren Jacobs, of the Chicago branch of Jews For Jesus, will be the special guest speaker at the Alliance church, 3815 Bull Valley road, McHenry, July 15 at 7 in the evening. Jews For Jesus, under the leadership of Moishe Rosen, is reported to be the fastest growing organization of its kind. In four years they have established branch offices in six major cities. Their message, according to Rosen, is that "Jewishness and Christ go hand in hand. We didn't give up our Jewish heritage when we became believers in Jesus,' and we want other Jewish people to know that Jesus is a real option." Jews For Jesus have taken this message to key cities across the United States and overseas. The message, "Christ in the Passover", depicts the annual feast and its Christological significance throught a visual display _ of -- the ±- items traditionally used in the ^Passover celebration. The ^symbolic significance of these items is explained using the clear insight the Holy Spirit has <*. given. Through the demon stration, a clear picture of Christ, God's ultimate Passover Lamb, is presented for those who may not know Him. The demonstration is particulary significant as it relates to the Christian Com munion observance. The presentation was written by Moishe Rosen, leader of the Jews for Jesus, from notes prepared by Leopold Cohen, a former rabbi, who came to faith in Christ. Over the years it has been presented in literally thousands of churches across the country and around the world. A table is set with the MOU can Bani-i on it! Rosen contends that some of the most important elements of Christian doctrine such as the Trinity, the prin ciple of Substitutionary Atonement, and salvation through a personal relationship with the Messiah are implied in the Sedar (Passover Feast) as observed by Orthodox Jews even today. The borer or larva is a white, flattened grub that burrows beneath the bark causing the bark to loosen from the wood or simply girdling the limbs by feeding galleries. The borers are present under the bark from June until the following May. Bronze Birch Borers emerge as adult beetles in May. They mate and lay eggs on the bark of birch trees. The first sign of an in festation of borers is weak or drying limbs usually in the upper area of white birch trees. Other symptoms include the presence of small, "d" shaped exit holes in the bark, especially in May and June. Infested limbs will usually1 appear to have an uneven surface or welt on the bark due to the tunneling of the borers under the bark. Successful chemical control depends on proper timing of treatment using Cygon as the insecticide. In the northern part of the state, this should be applied in early June and again in late June. The application is two teaspoons of Cygon 2-E per gallon of water. Spray the trunk and limbs thoroughly to a point of run-off and avoid spraying stumbled across a study of Messianic Prophesies from the Jewish Bible. It was there, in 1975, that he discovered that "Jesus is the promised Jewish Messiah". Says Jacobs, "Believing in Jesus has caused me to em brace my Jewishness." Shrubs - use a commercial fertilizer recommended about one-fourth pount (one-fourth pint) per foot of the shrubs neight or spread whichever is the greater. Again, work in and water. Avoid fertilizing 'all trees, evergreens and shrubs during mid-summer. Stimulating excessive new growth at that time may result in it not har dening off before winter. Fertilizer may be applied when the plants are dormant but spring and early summer applications tend to leach or WHAT S NEW when temperatures are more than 85 degrees. | Removal; of dead or dying branches is essential for sanitation. Results with Cygon have been disappointing; but future control with a systematic insecticide program promises to provide excellent control for this menace, pending complete EPA approval. Tree and Shrub Fertilization - - Nitrogen is the best known fertilizer nutrient applied to all crops. This element is responsible for vegetative growth and is most effectively applied to trees and shrubs before or during their spring flush of growth. "" _ If your trees ot̂ hrubs-show' woVk through'Yhe wil"'unused* short annual twig growth, excessive dead wood, sparse foliage or an off-green color, a form of fertilizer that includes nitrogen may enhance growth. Trees - the feeder roots of nearly all trees are within the top three feel of soil and they usually extend to a point just beyond the spread of the- branches. They are usually no . nearer the trunk than twice, its diameter measured about one foot from the ground. When fertilizing, make holes with a soil sampling auger or crowbar. Holes should be two feet apart and 12 to 18 inches deep depending on their size. Pour the fertilizer through a funnel to avoid spillage on the turf. The hole may then be completely filled with ad ditional soil. Commercial lawn fertilizer puch as 12-6-4,16-8-8 or 20-10-5 is usually best. Shade trees usually need one to two pounds (one to two pints) per square inch depending on its need. Flowering trees should receive one pound (one pint) per inch of trunk diameter. Normally the trunk diameter can be measured 12 inches above the ground level. . Needled Evergreens Evergreens should be fertilized before or during their spring growing period. Broadcast or spread lawn fertilizer such as those listed above at one-third pound (one-third pint) per foot of height or spread of plant, whichever is greater.
