J. Uttich, 712 N. Green street, at a 2 p.m. nuptial Mass In St. Bernard's Catholic church, Wauwatosa, Wise. Both sets of parents escorted their children down the aide to present them to each other and to Father Peter Carek, who officiated at the solemnization of promises. The bride's sister, Mary Conarchy, and a friend, Joseph Zanoni, provided apropriate music for the celebration. Scripture readings selected to com plement the liturgical theme were read by the bride's sister, Jane Conarchy, Wauwatosa, and the groom's sister, Katie Uttich. Yellow and white daisies decorated the church, as the bride walked toward the altar in a gown fashioned of white qiana, its lines of elegant simplicity highlighted by the Queen Ann neckline, and tastefully set off by a lace bodice. Her fingertip veil was secured by a small crown, beaded with pearls, and she carried a bouquet of white roses, daisies and stephanotis. Maureen Conarchy, Milwaukee, the bride's sister, was the maid of honor. Bridesmaids were Denise Donlon, Janesville; Geriann Patterson, Memphis, Tenn.: and Patricia Sukalick, Wauwatosa. Attendants wore flow length fully pleated qiana dresses of pale yeHow with short chiffon capes. They carried bouquets of white and yellow daisies and wore daisies in their hair. The duties of the best man were performed by Joseph Carey, McHenry. Groomsmen were Kyran Conarchy, Wauwatosa, the bride's brother; John Olson, Wausau, Wis.; and Michael Carey, Tampa, Fla. Bill Conarchy, Milwaukee and Craig Cone of McHenry, were the ushers. The bride's mother chose a floor length soft mint green chiffon with long sleeves. An ivory chiffon qiana blouson formal with chiffon coat was chosen by the mother of the groom. After the ceremony a reception was held at The Columns in Greenfield, Wis., at which 200 guests toasted the couple. Both attended the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point. The groom graduated with a Political Science major in December, 1976, and the bride graduated with a B.S. in Early Childhood Education in May 1978. Pre-nuptial showers were given by Mrs. Glen Palmer, Bristol, Wis., aunt of the groom; Mrs. Robert O'Brien, Milwaukee, aunt of the bride; and Mrs. W.P. Giebel, Lom bard, aunt of the groom. CI s Service Wed In Outdoor Rite A flower covered arch on the grounds of the Johnsburg community club provided the backdrop for the July 14 solemnizing of vows between Judith Anne Dempster and Steven James Freres, both of McHenry. Judge Henry Cowlin of ficiated at the 4:30 p.m. ceremony, and Mrs. John (Laurie) Masulunes was chosen as matron of honor, and Larry Miller performed the duties of best man. Bridesmaids were Mrs. Rick (Kim) Cooper, Ms. Cheri Cooper, Ms. Dawn Cooper, Mrs. Emmanuel (Candy) Macaluso, Mrs. Robert (Barb) Freres, Jr., Mrs. Larry (Kathy) Miller, and Ms. Joyce Susong Groomsmen were Mr. Rick Cooper, Steve Ziesk, John Masulunes, Emmanuel (Mac) Macaluso, Robert Freres, Jr., Mike Stuart, and Jeff Freres. Junior attendants were Miss Jenny Freres and Master Jason Cooper. The flower girl was Carol Lynn Masulunes, the bride's niece,, and the ringbearer was the groom's godchild, Joshua Cooper. All attendants were relatives or close friends of the bride and groom. After a trip to Lake Lawn, the couple will be at home in Eastwood Manor, McHenry. The bride is employed by Dr. John Elstrom in McHenry, and the groom works for Browning and Ferris in Barrington. „ BO I Seton Circle p. •" ' J| Approves By-Latvi Father Blake Hall of St. Joseph's church, Richmond, was the June 28 meeting place for St. Elizabeth Seton circle of the Daughters of Isabella. Mildred Walleck ied the group in the opening prayer, followed by the Pledge of Allegiance. Regent Mary Obenauf conducted the meeting during which items of interest were discussed and voted upon. Minutes of the previous meeting were approved as read by Rose Miller, recording secretary. The new constitution and by laws were read by Jane Riley and approval voted by the members present. Reports of the various committees followed, as did a decision then voted upon to hold a card party each month for the benefit of some needy cause. , The meeting closed with comments and a prayer by the Chaplain, Father Neville, after which refreshments were served by Pat Wightman and Kay Bell. The next scheduled meeting will be a potluck picnic July 26 at the home of Mary Obenauf. Senior Walk Meals are served Monday through Friday at the McHenry Walk-In Center beginning at 11:45 a.m. Reservations must be made by 1:30 p.m. the day before at 385-8260. '> Hie first meeting of the fifth district Veterans of Foreign Wars and Ladies Auxiliary was held Sunday, July 8, at veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1293 in Waukegan. Pat Patterson of Grayslake conducted the Veterans of Foreign Wars meeting and Gerry Kuck of McHenry conducted the Auxiliary meeting. Auxiliaries represented at the meeting are located in Waukegan, Elgin, Grayslake, Dundee, Lake Villa, Antioch, McHenry, Woodstodk, Marengo, Carpentersville and Winthrop Harbor. Reports were given by Rehabilitation chairman Ila Hogan, Membership chairman Mildred Cameron, Poppy chairman Lorraine Loss and Loyalty Day-Americanism chairman Louise Splinter. Historian Evelyn Whitmore requested the members to report to her on the activities of their auxiliary. Publicity chairman Mary Ann Anthony requested that the auxiliaries provide her with news articles for the disterict president's publicity book. Frank Rice, state of Illinois Commander of the Veterans of Foreign Wars visited the auxiliary ipeeting. In ad dressing the ladies, he thanked them for their support of the Veterans of Foreign Wars programs. The next meeting of the fifth district Veterans of Foreign Wars and Ladies Auxiliary will be held on Oct. 7 in Dundee. American Legion Auxiliary News McHENRY UNIT 491 By Pearl Cooper The following members of McHenry Unit 491, American legion auxiliary. Department of Illinois, attended the fifty- ninth annual convention at the Pick-Congress hotel in Chicago, July 12 through July 15; Out going president and in-coming vice president, Mrs. Dennis (Grace) Latimer: Mrs. Glen iDottie) Messer, in-coming president and out-going treasurer; Mrs. Ray (Betty Lou) Smith, out-going secretary: Mrs. Jack (Pearl) Cooper. out-going .vice- president and in-coming secretary; Mrs. Richard (Lydia) Fenner. out-going historian; and Mrs. Roy (Lauretta) Homo, out going chaplain and past district president. "Special guests" were the Honorable Jane Byrne, Mayor of Chicago; department commander, the American Legion. Norman J. Biebel; Mrs. Edward (Blanche) Zimmer, chapeau depart mental. Eight and Forty; Mrs. Charles (Rae) Shaw, past department and past national president ; and presidents of the V.F.W. auxiliary and other Veteran organizations. Under the Past Presidents' Parley chairmanship, the McHenry unit was acknowledged for over $500, their contribution for nurses' scholarships. The $500 was sent in the name of deceased past president, Frances Matchen. The McHenry unit was an nounced as being tenth in the state in Veterans Craft, having purchased $1,205 of Veterans Craft merchandise. Mrs. Raymond (Betty Lou) is the Veterans Craft chairman. McHenry unit was in seventh place in high membership with 372 members. Last year the McHenry unit was in eighth place. There are 790 units in the department of Illinois. The Press Book, communications chairmanship, made and compiled by Mrs. Jack (Pearl) Cooper, of the McHenry unit, was one of five books in department competition, and took first place in over 200 membership category. Mrs. Cooper had previously won first place in the 11th district elimination and first place in the 2nd division contest. This unit winning book has been sent to national for further judging and compeition. National convention will be held in August at Houston, Tex. It was announced that the I.S.S.C. school at Normal has been closed and no longer will l>e a project of the American Legion auxiliary. The dog coupon program has also been discontinued, as the plant has moved to California. Monetary contributions would be ap preciated to continue the 'Seeing Eye Dog' program. Awards won by the 11th district were: Marengo, two second places in the Poppy poster contest; a trophy for their contributions to the 'Seeing Eye Dog' program' Wheaton unit, for having purchased $1,685.65 in Veterans' Craft and also the Boy's State Governor, Eric Euhl of Wheaton wasttTSptcial Guest'. Huntley received an award for their "Blood Program '. A third place award was given to Leonora Bier- deman of Crystal Lake for writing a state Auxiliary song. A very impressive memorial service was held for the 916 deceased members of the department of Illinois, in cluding the five members from the McHenry unit. This in cluded 60 gold star members, 3 junior members and 43 charter members. The convention ended with the impressive and beautiful installation of the 1979-80 department officers. Mrs. Don (Margaret) Eckhardt of Bloomington was installed as the new department president: Mrs. A.J. (Margaret) Dorn of Mundelein was installed as 1st vice-president; Ms. Rosemary LOparco of Chicago was re installed as treasurer, Mrs. Clarence (Virginia) Kates of Chicago was installed as 2nd vice-president and Mrs. Melvin (J^eona.) Best of Collinsville, will be' the new department historian.
