All fees and registration will be taken in the school gymnasium from 8 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. and from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. Packets with the handbook and other vital information will be mailed to all families known to the school by Aug. 10. Families who will have children in Harrison for the first time should contact the school office immediately so their name can be included on the mailing list. Children who will be entering kindergarten must be 5 years old by Dec. 1. Parents must bring birth certificate, if they have not already done sd, to registration. All children en­ tering kindergarten and fifth grade must have a completed physical by Aug. 29. - First day of school for students in grades 1-8 will be Wednesday, Aug. 29. Hearing On RTA Increase A series of public hearings on the Regional Transportation Authority's proposed fare in­ crease will be held throughout the six-county region beginning Tuesday, Aug. 7. In McHenry county the hearing is scheduled at McHenry County college, 8900 W. Rt. 14, Crystal Lake, at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 8. Persons wishing to testify at any of the eight scheduled hearings must register beforehand at the entranceway of the hearing site. Written material on the proposed fare increase may be submitted no later than seven days after the conclusion of the hearing. Copies of it are available for public inspection in the offices of the RTA, Room 709, 300 N. State street, Chicago, and at RTA regional offices. Miss VanCleave Learns About Science Careers Cynthia VanCleave of 3701 West Bull Valley road, McHenry, attended the 1979 Summer Symposium on Science and Engineering at Case Western Reserve University (CWRU) in Cleveland, Ohio, in July. The symposium, sponsored by the University's Case In­ stitute of Technology, gives entering high school seniors a preview of education and careers in science and engineering. Ms. VanCleave is a student at McHenry Community-West campus. Illinofc KEEPING A WATCHFUL EYE-A McHenry area Jaycee keeps • watchful eye on just a few of the dinners that were sold at last Sunday's Chicken-In-The-Park. Pete Keller said that about 1,000 chicken dinners were sold at this year's event. Throughout the day, 14 Jaycees were needed to help prepare, cook and clean up after the cookout which went from 7 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. According to Keller, the money raised at this year's Chicken-In-The-Park will be channelled back into the community through the Jaycees' various projects. TWO INJURED IN CAR CRASH (Continued from page 1) after his car collided with another, driven by Timothy J. Althoff, 416 Shepherd Hill, McHenry. Althoff said he was heading east on Elm street and went to make a left turn into the fire station when Wegener's car hit the right side of his auto. The reporting officer noted that Althoff was a volunteer fireman and was responding to a legitimate call at the time. The report said that the dash­ board mounted blue light was on as were the car's headlights and flashers. The officer went. on to note that Althoff signalled his approach with both lights and his horn. Wegener said he was at a stop on Elm street waiting to turn onto Church street and as he made his turn, Althoff's car was "right there." A three-car collision on Elm street resulted in a ticket for Brian Pender, 3715 W. John street, McHenry. Pender said he saw the car in front of him but could not stop in time. Caught in the middle, Martin J. Kloss, Wonder Lake, said he was stopped behind a car waiting to turn left and heard the tires squealing before his car was hit. Scott M. Donarski, 3111 W. Crescent, McHenry, was waiting to turn left off Elm street when his car was hit. Pender was cited for failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident. On Lincoln road, a parked car owned by Brian D. Rte. 120 McHenry, Illinois M5M7° Boat Crashes Into River Pier On July 29, a pontoon boat driven by Matthew Rodasz, 2407 Fairview avenue, McHenry, collided with a pier owned by Ed Kaplen, Cary. According to the report, Rodasz evidently lost control of the boat while maneuvering to avoid some water skiers. There were no injuries. • • * • Errors often arise when men try to prove that they have been right. On Juljj 2i, the Sheriffs police* were/ called to in­ vestigate some youths in a fieid at the intersection of Trey and Draper roads. The police found quantities of beer, marijuana and an unidentified controlled sub- stance. Arrested was Bradley Smith, 17, 406 N. Kent, McHenry, for criminal trespassing and illegal possession of cannabis and alcoholic liquor. Bond was not set as of Monday morning, Donald Sonneman, 17, 818 N. River road, McHenry, and John Sullivan, 18,1917 North avenue, McHenry, were both arrested for criminal trespassing and illegal possession of cannabis and alcoholic liquor with bond set at $3,000 each. Terry Sword, 18, 412 N. Kent, McHenry, was arrested for criminal trespassing and illegal possession of alcoholic liquor with bond set at $2,000. Two juveniles were referred to the juvenile authorities. The Sheriff's police were called to a dispute at the Porten subdivision beach where they found that Betty Dehne, 910 Paul street, McHenry, had been struck several times in the face by her husband, James. Ms. Dehne was transported to Condell hospital, Liber­ ty viile, by the Wauconda Rescue squad. James Dehne was arrested for aggravated battery. On July 30, a Sheriff's deputy stopped to assist a McCullom Lake police officer who had stopped a driver who was driving erratically and had run a stop sign. Ronald Vance, Wonder Lake, was arrested for driving while intoxicated, transporting open liquor and disobeying a stop sign. Bond was set at $1,070. Fair Exhibit Jim Smith, McHenry, 4-H electricity project leader, assists his son, Steve, with his 4-H exhibit that is on display during the McHenry County fair, Aug. 1-5. Steve is soldering a circuit board on his "sending signals with light" project. Steve and his father belong to the Lincoln Cloverleafs 4-H club. In his third year of membership, Steve is also enrolled in a photography project. FRONT ST., McHENRY Arrest Youths w'% Winner Of On Drug Charges Baby Contest Terrence Boro, 1211 Route 120, McHenry, and a juvenile companion were both ticketed for transporting open liquor after a Sheriff's deputy saw two bottles of beer thrown un­ derneath the car. The deputy stopped the car on McGuire road near Harvard to warn the driver that the license plate was improperly secured. Similarly, Robin Nolan, 2315 Club road, McHenry, was also ticketed for transporting open liquor when a Sheriff's deputy stopped the car because it had no rear license plate. Russell Mathews, 315 W. Northlake road, McHenry, was wanted by the Lake county Sheriff's department for driving while his license was revoked. According to the report, while trying to take Mathews into custody, he became "abusive and struck the of­ ficer." Mathews was arrested for battery and resisting a peace officer with bond set at $2,000. A Sheriff's deputy had previously warned Thomas Thompson, 2622 Midoak lane, McHenry, not to drive because his license was suspended. When the same deputy saw Thompson driving, he arrested him and bond was set at $1,000. Herbert Stout, 137 Park, McHenry, was arrested for driving with a suspended license after a Sheriff's deputy stopped his car because the license plates were partially obscured. Bond was set at $1,000. When a Sheriff's deputy stopped a car driven by Raymond Hermosillo, Wonder Lake, he arrested Hermosillo for driving without a valid license and without a valid registration.
