She received art training at the Chicago Art institute, American Academy of Art and the Institute of Design. She Is represented in galleries in New York, Chicago, and Memphis. A commercial artist, she is presently doing design for publications, educational and Industrial films and textbooks. McHenry Artists Are Festival Exhibitors Don Leland Brown, with his watercolors, and Robert J. Wilson, with his mixed media paintings, both of McHenry, will be among the exhibitors at the fourth annual Woodstock Fine Arts festival to be held Saturday and Sunday, Aug. 18 and 19, from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m., in and around Woodstock city Square. A total of 128 specially selected artists and craftsmen will exhibit a wide variety of media Including oils, watercolors, graphics, pottery, weaving, soft sculpture, photography, jewelry, hand forged ironwork, welded sculpture, wood mirrors and boxes, batik, stoneware sculpture, butterfly assemblage^' glass geometric terrariums, 3-D montage, hand painted. china, macrame' and antiqued copper repousse'. There- will also be on-the-spot sketchers. Festivities include a bratwurst picnic plus an ice creani social in the newly-built springhouse on the square. " Exhibitors this year hail from greater Illinois, Indiana, Wisconsin and Minnesota. In the event of rain, the festival will be held the following weekend, Aug. 25 and 26. Lamaze Holds Fun Auction Aug. 8 The McHenry County Lamaze Parents organization invites all members to the second annual Fun Auction Wednesday, Aug. 8. The auc­ tion will begin at 10:30 a.m. at Jane Johnson's home on 6805 Pioneer road. The auction will follow with a potluck luncheon and swim. Last year's auction was most successful. All members are urged to attend. They should bring one or several items to auction. For more information, call Jane Johnson at 675-6303. The McHenry County Lamaze Parent organization is composed of parents who wish to continue their education from child bearing through child rearing. Membership in the group is open to all people. The Parents group has three main goals: to better educate themselves as parents, to promote Lamaze trained childbirth, and to institute family centered maternity care in McHenry county hospitals. The Parents Group offers many services to its members. Mother Help Line is a helping hand hot-line service for new mothers staffed by trained Lamaze volunteers. The Lending Library is a collection of books and articles for the use of members on such topics as child rearing, birth, nutrition, child psychology, and many other topics which pertain to parenting. Pfirent Support Group is offering monthly meetings foKoarents on various issues surrounding child rearing. Some topics which have been discussed include family centered maternity care, first aid, pre-readingv' toilet training, crafts for children and successful parenting.. Various pediatricians and obstetricians have also spoken. The Parents group is spon­ sored by the Northern Illinois chapter of the. American Society for Psycho-prophylaxis in Obstetrics. There are five instructors in McHenry county who are A.S.P.O. certified to teach Lamaze instruction. They include Mrs. John (Janet) Smith and Phyllis Passarelli. Every month there is a' film showing by one of the in­ structors at various locations in McHenry county. The next film showings will be Friday, Aug. 24, at 7:30 p.m. at Crystal Lake Ambutal and Monday, Sept. 24 at Woodstock Memorial hospital at 8 p.m. The film that will be shown these two nights will be the award winning Film on Lamaze trained childbirth, "Nan's Class". To help keep Red Cross ready, anywhere in America, the McHenry county chapter is sponsoring a Dinner-Theater benefit party Thursday, Aug. 9, on the Woodstock Square. All proceeds will go to this national Disaster-Relief fund. Dinner will be served in the courtroom of the Old Cour­ thouse Inn at 6:30 p.m., with a social hour beginning at 5:30 p.m. The curtain will go up at 8:30 p.m. in the Woodstock Opera House on "The Club", the 1977 best off-Broadway musical. Reservations may be made by mail or phone at the chapter office in Woodstock, P.O. Box 421, or 338-1050 by Aug. 3. liie Red Cross is always ready, especially when disaster no strikes. This past year, there have been so many fires, floods, tornadoes, hurricanes and even a nuclear accident that needed Red Cross relief- work, the national Disaster- Relief fund was exhausted in April. This meant deficit spending for the rest of the fiscal year, amounting to several million dollars. Lakeland Community Picnic The annual community picnic for residents of Lakeland Park and Lakeland Shores and their families and friends, co- sponsored by the Lakeland Park Women's club and the Lakeland Park Property Owners association, will be held Sunday, Aug. 5, starting at noon at the Lakeland Park Community house and grounds, 1717 N. Sunset avenue. There will be the usual delicious roasted corn, ham­ burgers and hot dogs, cake, coffee and cold beverages, all at very nominal prices. The theme will be a "White Elephant" sale. The Craft club will have many very nice handmade items on display for sale. It will be an enjoyable af­ ternoon with plenty of activities of interest to both children and adults. Festival Of Arts, Crafts Set Aug. 11-12 A summer Festival of Arts and Crafts will be held for the first time by the new Resurrection church parish at Resurrection center, 2710 S. Country Club road. Woodstock. The event will take place Saturday, Aug. 11, 10 to 5, and Sunday, Aug. 12, 11 to 5. Beautiful grounds and a peaceful setting will enhance this fine arts show sponsored by the American Society of artists, a national membership organization. Many of the finest paintings and crafts, all original in design and execution, will be presented by local and statewide artists. Besides oils, watercolors, acrylics, pen and ink drawings, Japanese silk art, silhouette cuttings and wood carvings, there will also be special demonstrations of glass engraving, pottery and sculpting. Food, baked goods and beverages will be served throughout the day, and several different bands, vocalists and guitarists will entertain. Children will enjoy the balloon- laden clowns, the magician, the pony rides, the dragon game, having their faces painted like Spiderman or Raggedy Ann and being artists at the Kids Art Kornfer.
