Most of the members of the Fountain Square Fools are college students, their talents to make the Good News more alive and joyful. The figure of the Fool keeps recurring throughout the long history of Christianity. Jesus himself depended on parables and stories to touch the hearts of his listeners, and St. Paul often spoke of the "foolishness of God." Within the context of a non- e u c h a r i s t i c l i t u r g i c a l celebration, the Fools attempt to create services which are neither commonplace nor radical, taking great pains to involve the congregation and avoid a "stagy performance." Before and after each per formance, the Fountain Square Fools join hands and pray that the Good News be truly proclaimed through their foolishness. Print and p^ptos cannot totally capture the movement, sound and color of the real-life Fools. As one member of the troupe puts it, "all men and women need an imperfect mirror to be reminded not to take themselves so seriously. The fool is a mirror through which man sees his im perfections." Father Joe Kulak, pastor of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton and j. former associate pastor of St. friary Catholic church, McHenry, saw them perform when he was at a seminar in Chicago and was so impressed with them that he felt he would like to share them with the parish community. "I believe this will excite the young people of Crystal Lake, as well as mature adults," says Father Joe. They will be appearing at the Crystal Lake South high school auditorium, which is located on the corner of McHenry avenue and Dartmoor in Crystal Lake, Sunday, Aug. 26, at 7:30 p.m. Tickets can be obtained that evening at the performance. AUGUST tt, l«f» ' More Blind Are Finding Jobs "Forty-eight blind and i visually impaired people have been placed in good paying > competitive jobs during the first seven months of 1979 by our Lighthouse Job Placement service," said Milton J. . Samuelson, executive director, Chicago Lighthouse for the Blind. "We now have four job placement counselors on our staff, and by the end of the year our goal is to exceed 80 com petitive job placements," Samuelson continued. "We beleive this is a reality due to the fact that 73 persons were placed in the past fiscal year/' blind and visually im- persons with job skills encouraged to register with e Lighthouse Job Placement ice at 1850 W. Roosevelt' I . . . • - ; . . . . ' road, Chicago, 111. (312-666- 1331) or the Lighthouse Job Placement service in the Ridgely Building, 5th street at Monroe, Springfield, 01. (217- 753-1190). Blind and visually impaired persons seeking job skills should contact their Illinois Department of R e h a b i l i t a t i o n s e r v i c e s counselor, or phone the Lighthouse. The Office Skills Training department of the Chicago Lighthouse, in addition to teaching typing, also offers training in the advanced skills of word processing, medical terminology and legal ter minology. The Industrial Skills Training department, in ad dition to training in factory skills and machine operations. also offers opportunities for training in janitorial skills. The Lighthouse also offers career guidance in the V o c a t i o n a l E v a l u a t i o n department. Many blind persons seek this valuable service in determining the type of work for which they would be best suited. Teacher Legislation Governor James R. Thompson approved two bills last week which alter certain restrictions placed on teachers in Illinois. The first item, House Bill 1679, allows teachers (except in Chicago) to live outside the district in which they teach. Senate Bill 375 makes it possible for those teachers who have a vested right to retirement benefits to retire at an earlier age without penalty. C.J.
