\ & HELPING PAWS ANIMAL WELFARE ASSOCIATION P.O. Box 205 • Cryttol Lok* Illinois 60014 • (SI5) 469-2641 A,W®M . By Mary Nelson Two weeks ago we began our plea, for community financial support in order to continue our programs as before our country's inflation crunch. To dale, with the help of one contributor of $250 and another of $100, we have received $470 total in contributions. We thank those of you who think enough of us to lend a helping hand. As you can see, however, we are still not able to draw enough public support to pull us out. Each month our expenses amount to between $800 and $1,000. Having $5,000 in the bank at this time does not present a very pretty picture. Last week a distraught elderly lady called from a pet store in McHenry. She had found two 2-week old kittens whose mother had been killed on the highway. She herself is on social Security and her husband recently died. Having very little money to even feed herself, she took the kittens to a local vet who treated them for free. She was told by the vet that the kittens needed special attention and diet to pull them through. This lady went to the pet store and, even with the discount they offered her, she could not pay. She was crying when she called and told me of her plight. I then talked to. the owner of the store and arranged for her to receive all items needed to sustain her while caring for the kittens, food, supplies and litter. Naturally HP will receive the bill and a promise to provide food for the kittens when they are old enough. This is where your contributions go. We gave a lonely lady a reason to live and the knowledge that someone out there care for her. There will be others like her later on, and no HP to lend that helping hand. Sue Royal from Cary called me the other day and asked if she could be chairman of a Tag Day on Sept. 15 in the Cary area. Every tag day is a good money raiser. She will need bodies tp help her. You pick your own hours and even location where you would like to stand. She needs all of you...kids are great fund raisers...everyone can be. Call her, if you can help, at 312-639- 5142. Another fund raiser is our HP tag day banks, which are distributed in area stores. As people come in, they donate. Money is built up rapidly. Unfortunately we have no volunteers to distribute those banks and pick them up. I truly believe we lost at least $2,000 a year in revenue due to this problem. It takes very little time but all of our few volun teers are doing all that they can. If you would like to take on this job in your area, give me a call please at 312-658-8389, or call the office at 45&&641. Remember the HP^ store. Christmas is coming and we have gifts galore. Why not buy a gift that is also tax deduc- table. The store is located at 465 Virginia street, Crystal Lake, Route 14, a few doors southeast of Dole avenue. Hours are 10-4, Monday through Saturday. Last but definitely not least, come to the Cat Show on Sept. 9 at the Crystal Point mall. Any and all cats and their masters or mistresses are welcome. There are no age restrictions. Please register your cats at the mall at 1 p.m; show time is at 2. spurgeons Crlspl Neatl New White Swan Poly Knit Uniforms Picture you in pretty polyesternot just knit but double knit for smooth fit and wrinkle-shy waysl Three carefree styles in bright white: Princess Back, shirt waist, sizes 4-16 $17 Pantsuit with tucked yoke, sizes 4-16 $23 A-line Dress with princess back, 6-18 $17 Join Our Uniform Club for FREE Uniforms!
