Cerebral Palsy is a term covering impairment Of motor function due to brain damage during the perinatal period or early infancy. Usually, the disorder shows no clinical evidence of progression. Although symptoms vary, two common types of cerebral palsy are the spastic type, characterized by involuntary movements of arms and legs. Attention is directed at assisting the child to achieve his maximum intellectual and physical potential, using techniques for specific defeats. Physical therapy, bracing, and at times, orthopedic surgery are indicated if the potential for functioning warrants it. United Cerebral Palsy provides services through four program areas: Follow-a-long, adult day center, growth and development clinic and general administration. Through these program areas flow numerous services in the region; in formation and referral, casefinding, equipment loanbank, community development, visiting nurse service, developmental screening, education advocacy, housing assistance, tran sportation, living skills and recreation. McHENRY, ILL ixsui tC OPEN MON-SAT 9 to 5:30 FRI9 to 8:30 Among the McHenry County College students working on decorating the Grant Park altar of Pope John Paul ITS Mass were Cheri Bingaman of Elgin, left; Betty Haras of Marengo, center; and Elizabeth Eidok of Marengo, right. McHenry County College students played a key role in decorating Grant Park for Pope John Paul II's Friday Mass. Fifty-two MCC floral design students and College Instructor John Wittmus spent 14 hours Thursday traveling to Chicago and decorating the altar at Grant Park with 17,000 white and yellow mums. Eighteen MCC students returned to Grant Park again on Friday to make final preparations and to water the flowers. They then were allowed to remain near the altar for the Mass and handed out flowers to the audience when it was over. The MCC students live in McHenry County and in Lake, suburban Cook, Kane and Winnebago counties. They were part of a workforce of 350 high school and college students working Thursday to set up the display. Only MCC students were chosen to return to the site on Friday for final preparations before the Pope's arrival, however. The students unloaded the mums from five semi-trucks, then trimmed and tied them to the platform. Wittmus explained that two former MCC students also worked on the display. He said the plants were ordered by the Chicago Archdiocese and neighboring dioceses at a cost of $65,000. "It was a real honor for MCC students to participate in decorating the park for the Pope," Wittmus said. No Ceiling Either But don't they have a cover charge here?" inquired the timid chap.
