"Editor: "Several days ago I went in to this particular McHenry auto dealer's show room to look at the new cars for the coming year. One thing led to another and I was taken to the rear of the shop to see a car that was slighty driven by an auto company executive, what is called a Brass Hat. '1 was offered more for my car than I paid for it and thought it was indeed a good deal for a car that had everything. I made the deal and drove the "New Car" home trusting completely in the dealer's reputation as a respected business house in the community. "Upon investigation under the hood of the "New" vehicle, much to my amazement, the engine compartment revealed that this car had the looks of a very much used car. The dealer prided himself in the beginning by showing me the odometer with a reading of no more than 2,670 miles on the vehicle. "1 took the car to a very close friend who is an expert mechanic and his opinion confirmed my findings that indeed this vehicle had at least f-42,000 miles on it but more V likely some 20,000 miles on it. Everyone knows there are very stiff laws awaiting any car dealer who intentionally tampers with the odometer of any car. My mechanic friend said that this car most certainly had been tampered with because it could not be so worn and dirty under the hood with only 2,670 miles on it. "With that information in mind I challenged the owner of this dealership and he gave no argument but was very hasty in taking back the car and voiding the deal returning my old car as fast as you please. To me the dealer knew he was guilty and did not want any reprecussions from me or for that matter to hold oh to evidence and use it against him. "I have written the Attorney General's office advising them of the situation and hopefully they will launch an investigation since I have heard that this same dealer has been guilty of ripping off others as well. "Beware, citizens of McHenry. Make sure you know what you are buying and do not make the mistake I made by trusting the dealer without looking over everything before you make any deal. "It is indeed too bad that the auto dealer has to stoop to under handed methods to stay in business in these times. Better he goes out of business than to steal from the public. "WalterC. Bender "1006 Oakwood Dr. "McHenry" ON SALT II "Editor: "If we don't get upset about treason in regard to SALT II at this point, how are we going to stop the Communists when they are completely superior to us? We will be ready for blackmail and I'm not sure they aren't using that hammer over our heads already With their troops in Cuba. "On page 5 of The Review of the News dated Oct. 10, 1979, it is reported that Gromyko said, '...the Soviet Union and other countries of the Socialist community have never threatened anybody nor are they threatening anybody now.' Now we know that is a bold faced lie! "Well, I say those Russian troops must be removed from Cuba and without any regard to the SALT II Treaty. They are definitely a threat to our country. It is just insane to trust the Communist butchers- three of them having been responsible for the death of over 1,000,000 people. I have seen no sign of their softening toward human rights. People are still attempting to esca] from their 'paradise' agaii almost impossible odds for survival. "I have written to Senators Percy and Stevenson. They know all this, so why don't they act like true Americans and think about their own country's survival for a change. They should vote "no" on the SALT II Treaty and get those Russian Communist troops" out of Cuba too. Also, stop supporting the Sandinistas and other terrorists instead of shamefully allowing our President to meet with them and promising cooperation, which usually means taxpayers money. "If our country remains strong, we won't have to worry about tin-horn dictators. But we can't win if we do everything to help them get into power and then sustain them. "If our senators do not remain faithful to our Con stitution, maybe it's time we changed our laws to allow for recall of the Un-American ones. "Sincerely, "Mrs. Dorothy Himpelman "P.S. to readers of the Public Pulse: If you want to help defeat SALT II, please write immediately to your senators and let them know of your opposition." ple^-sove: ape rtdi iiuft schi SWEETEST DAY SATURDAY, OCT. 20 SHOW HER YOU CARE WITH a NORCROSS CARD & FANNY MAY CANDIES B0L6ER DRUG STORE 1259 N.Green St. 385-4500 AAron is Coming! "Gentlemen: "In response to your front page article of Friday, Oct. 12,1 am one of the concerned parents (Present at the Oct. 9 Johnsburg school board meeting, to 'express concern >ver grade school age children ng on the same bus as high school students.' "True, we don't like our children riding the high school bus, but that was by no means 4teug>ain is§n&M)ur problem waswSfofifln the main, we were fighting to get our children a full day of school, as we feel that the last few minutes, of school are im portant, as to homework assignments, last minute in structions from teachers, etc. "Then too, the incidents taking place on high school busses should not be occurring in the view and hearing of first graders. Why mix the innocents with the street-wise? "Our children leave at 7:45 for school, leaving them with almost an hour before their day begins and are dismissed 15 minutes early. Charles Boak stated that rearranging the bus schedule for seven students would inconvenience an estimated 160 other students. Does that justify in conveniencing our children to the extent that they spend an hour waiting for school to begin and lose the last 15 minutes of their school day? "I can appreciate the fact that cost is a consideration with students coming from 'outlying areas. But since we live in Ringwood (where these seven students go to school) we can hardly be considered as 'outlying' from the Ringwood school. *'Also, if cost is such a con sideration, is it more important to send two full busloads of students to Winnebago, a distance of approximately 120 miles, to participate in a non- conference football game, or to allot $5,000 for a wrestling program, than to provide a full day of school for first graders as well as a proper en vironment for them to end their school day? "Dr. Andreas' statement that the district cannot afford to run one bus outNto Ringwood for each grade Jtevfel, is a total falsification^^ our request. At no time did we ever suggest that a bus be sent out to Ringwood for each grade level. "Ringwood is indeed remote from Johnsburg, resulting in many inconveniences to our residents over years. We have accepted them without complaint in the past, but feel that this situation is totally unacceptable. There has to be some feasible way to separate first graders from high school students without undue cost and inconvenience to the other students, and also provide our children with a full day of school. "Respectfully, "Gloria Mack "5109 N. Ridgeway "Ringwood" * • * • Wisdom isn't neces sarily shown by those who 'make no mistakes.
