!! Your Police Department | Driver, Pedestrian Hurt Deaths s> >• )» 1> 1> I' I" >• by officer Jim Fitzgerald IIn Pre-Holiday Crashes Public Relations Officer McHenry City Police Phone 385-2131 Christmas is next week, and I would like to make sure that everyone who will be driving back and forth from their homes to friends and relatives homes on Christmas eve and day takes an extra amount of time, and uses an extra amount of caution to insure that this Christmas is safe for you and your family. Dads, you be careful how you pile the presents in the LETTERS TO car so you do not block any of the windows. You must have a clear view all around the car. . Don't pile any heavy presents high on the seat, as they will act like missies when you brake hard to avoid something in the road. Moms, put any trays or* pans of foSa that you may be taking with you to the relatives homes on the floor, so your hands are free if and when you need them to brace yourself or the children, in case Dad has to stop quickly. And don't let the kids stand up on the seats as they could go flying like a rocket also. Get there, but get there in one piece and safely. A Very Merry and Joyous Christmas is wished for everyone in the community by all the officers and staff of the McHenry Police department!!! Cold temperatures can freeze hair's moisturizing system, making hair brittle and easily broken. And, cold wind dries hair just as it "chaps" the skin. • Be sure to keep scarves, hats and other head coverings clean! • Split ends, often associated with dry hair, cannot be mended. The only way to get rid of them is to have hair trimmed frequently, every six weeks or so. ....and more ideas to f & 9 1 & Vk 9 Make Your Own Tasty Italian Beef Sandwiches Bonus meals, a welcome fea ture following a roast beef din ner, are especially appreciated around the holidays when money and minutes are both at a premium. Surely one of the mosf pop ular ways to utilize leftover beef is in sandwiches. For a spicy variation, try Italian Beef Sandwiches, inspired by this favorite restaurant item. Slices of cooked beef simmer in a well-seasoned sauce arid are served on rolls that have been dipped in the sauce. Italian Beef Sandwiches 1 pound thinly sliced cooked roast beef 1 can (10 /i ounces) beef consomme VI cup catsup VA cup water 1 medium onion, cut crosswise in slices 1 small green pepper, cut in strips 1 clove garlic, minced Y* teaspoon leaf oregano 6 large rolls, halved Combine consomme, catsup, water, onion, green pepper, garlic and leaf oregano in large saucepan or frying-pan and heat to boiling. Add beef, cov er tightly and cook slowly 25 to 30 minutes. Drain off and re serve cooking liquid and dip cut surfaces of bottom halves of rolls in it. Place hot beef and vegetables on bottom halves. Dip cut surfaces of tops of rolls in reserved liquid and place on top of sandwiches. Serve hot. 6 servings. • A spritz of water will help curls spring back to life between shampoos. Just spray dry, drooping curls with water--a plant mister works great! • • Damp combing will straighten the curl, and make it frizz; in stead, wait until hair is thorough ly dry to comb it, and use a large, wide tooth comb that's less likely to snag. Adding a blow dryer at tachment to soften the dryer's airflow, and using your fingers to direct hair strands while drying, will keep curls in condition. e Moisturize hair often with a good protein conditioner. The perming process may dry hair out, and winter dryness can rob hair of even more moisture. 1 J ULCZAL According to Aristotle's rules of rhetoric, persuade go hand in hand with sincerity. true beauty of expression and power to American Legion Post 491 - RINGW00D ROAD.
