Warrior Speed Too Much For Trojans, 76 To 43 By Dick Rabbitt Coach Ken Ludwig's Mc Henry High Warriors put on a brilliant display of speed and finesse as they easily defeated the Cary Grove Trojans in a Fox Valley contest 76 tq? 43 Friday night at Buckner Gym It was virtually no contest from the outset, as the speedy Warriors jumped out to a quick io to 2 lead in the early minutes, and with Len Jensen hitting from far and near for 12 pts. led 20 to 8 at the end of the first period. In the second period the Warriors as in the past failed to put the Trojans away, as ihey committed several mistakes letting, the Cary Grove five creep to within six. 23 to 17. before Johnson and Bob Greve hit the hoop to give the Warriors a 33 to 21 bulge at the intermission. Senior center Jim John son. given a little elbow room, dominated the early stages of the third period~as he connected underneath for three quick baskets, and the Warriors were off and running, much to the delight of the local fans. The Warriors continued their onslaught to lead 52 to 34 going into the final period. Midway in the final period when Tony Sroka's two free throws gave the Warriors a 65 to 38 lead. Coach1 Ludwig cleared the bench, and the reserves got into the scoring act to put the game away for a nice win 76 to 43. The win put the Warriors at 4 and 2 in the Fox Valley, one game behind both Crystal Lake South and Dundee. It was a great win for the Warriors, Their defense of Greg Meyer the conference's leading scorer was out standing. The frustrated Trojan, unabl^ to score, began to commit fouls in desperation, and eventually fouled out of the game early in the final period. Meyer, $ho has been averaging 25 pts. per game, was held to a season low of only 11 pts. With Dundee upsetting the Gators of Gary Collins, the Warriors find themselves only one game back in the standings in the Fox Valley. Senior guard Len Jensen led all scorers with 12 baskets for a total of 24 pts. Coach Ludwig was quite happy with his team's performance. He com mented. "We played a good ball game, and Lenny did an excellent job at both ends of the court." Friday night the Warriors travel down the blacktop to take on the Tigers of Crystal Lake Central at the Fieldhouse in another im portant fox Valley game. Both teams are tied at 4 and 2, and this game will end the first round of conference play.
