WALTER ANDERSON A McHenry township clerk for 24 years, H. Walter Anderson remembered when his father, John, opened the Broadway Barbecue on Front street where the First National bank now stands. "Our most famous customer was Orson Welles," Anderson said. "He always came over for barbecues when he was going to school in Woodstock." Anderson also remembered the baseball field, which today would stretch across Route 120. The infield was where Ace Hardware stands and the outfield is presently the site of the McHenry Plaindealer offices. "Earl Walsh and I joined the 4-H club as two of their first members," he noted. "We raised a half- acre of corn as our project. This was way back in 1917.^ Anderson also remembered some of the time spent dancing at both the Polly Prim and the Fox dance halls. The McHenry Plaindealer has been in the Anderson household ever since the Andersons moved to the City. HgAgS Reg.
