Remembering When (with long time subscribers) GENEVIEVE KNOX "My parents were among the early settlers here in McHenry," she said. "Our farm was out on the Irish prairie - where the new parte (Knox park) is Genevieve was one of eight children in the family who went to the little country school near the Bolger farm. "We used to have to walk a mile or more every day to get to school," she said' "All eight grades and the high school were in one building and there were only two teachers," she noted. Genevieve was a teacher in rural schools for a time and then taught in McHenry schools from 1929 until she retired in 1962. "In the early days, McHenry was quite different," she commented. "There were the silent movies in the Opera house. It used to cost five or ten cents to get in." "There were the fiddlers, like Mike Conway and Bill Quinn, who usedto play all around," she said. The McHenry Plaindealer has been in the Knox family since it started in 1875 and Genevieve particularly enjoys "Musin and Meanderin", "So I Hear" and "Twice Told Tales." im FISH r AUC. d - r LAlNUC./UiE.I^ • r 1UUA1, JANUAHK Z&, 1MW Aid Handicapped Children Women Of ^ecoSn^ze Students At The Moose V.F.W.
