Rusty Nail Inn remained alone in first place as they twice defeated B&H Tap 11-4 and 17-11. Eastern Illinois university track performer John Mclnerney of McHenry received All-American honors at the NCAA Division II Track and Field cham­ pionship iij^ Macomb. Mclnerney finished in fifth place in the 1,500 meter run with a time of 3:46.9, helping Eastern to a tenth place finish in the team com­ petition. Jim Leon, a star per­ former for the Montini Mustangs, 1979 Rockford diocesan grade school basketball champs, attended PAGE 33 - PLAINDEALER - the ̂ Illinois Basketball c^mp on the campus of the University of Illinois in Champaign. Leon was rewarded for his excellence in shooting and "one on one" competition. Jim recorded a 90 percent shooting accuracy from the free throw line. Patrick Becker, 17, is one shot off the leader in the Hudson Ohio Junior In­ vitational golf tournament, an international tournament of 100 young ^men from around the world. Joe will succeed Bill Day, who resigned that position earlier this spring. JULY Tommy and Terry Gaylord visited Wrigley field for the first time, but their hopes of their favorite team, the Cubs, beating the Mets were washed away. The trip had some highlights, though, as they consumed their limit of hot dogspopaml peanuts, not to mentiolK their acquisition of Cub halls and T shirts. Pretty little "Miss Peanut '79" took some golf in­ structions from Dr. Robert Petersen, president of McHenry Kiwanis, when the Division II golf outing was held at Chapel Hill golf course. John Jung of McHenry received the "outstanding student athlete" award from Dr. John Britton, professor of learning and development at the annual all-sports banquet at the Sedom center in Woodstock. John won the 440 yd. dash at Aurora to qualify for the state meet, where he won the Championship. Mary Mclnerney and Sue Hauser did a fine job in organizing the tour­ nament. It was a grand time for old time friends to gather at the McHenry Country club for lunch and reminiscing. "Zeke" Bacon returned from Arizona to greet old friends, Sib Whiting, Gus Frqund and Marty Conway, who fill starred on McHenry high and town team basketball teams. "Sch­ maltz" Miller was there, he was "Zeke's" golfing part­ ner. S.I.H. was also there and said he played basketball with tlftse athletes but says he never had any big time scouts following him around. His only claim to fame was being best man for both Zeke and Sib when they met their brides at the altar. Al'Gl'ST For the second con­ secutive year, the McHenry Tumble Weeds won a first place trophy for their out­ standing exhibition in the Fiesta day parade. Sue Martin of McHenry captured low net in Flight four of the Northern Illinois Women's Golf association tournament held at Cog,Hill in Lamont. Participating for the first time in the 18th annual event. Sue carded a two day score of 190 for the win.
