McHenry Warriors placed three on the All Conference team, Barry Anderson, a defensive back,- Tom Jablonski, a defensive lineman and linebacker, Ed Hughes. •Donna Chesler, a sophomore on McHenry high girls' volleyball team, was selected in the Fox Valley All Conference team. The McHnery girls' swimming team finished fourth in the Fox Valley meet held at McHenry. The girls set three t new school records during the meet. Wade Cepulis finished 76th out of 120 runners in the I.H.S.A. Sectional meet. Considering the caliber of competition, the McHenry sophomore did himself and the Warriors proud of his fine finish. The girls' cross country team finished 8th out of 17 schools. Seniors Barry Anderson, a defensive back and wing back, and Eddie Hughes, a linebacker, were selected by their teammates as the Most Valuable Players at the annual football awards night held at West campus. Sophomores Gordon Bourey and Wade Cepulis were selected by their teammates as the most valuable in Cross Country past season, boys from McHenry of a 7-boy team that for the A.A.U. National Cross Country championship, which will be held in Hightstown,/j.J. The boys are Chris Creutz, Brian Wright, Steve Carby, Jeff Wallace and Darren Cepulis. After losing the opening game to Mjaiengo, 61 to 48, the McHenW Warriors rallied for two wins to capture the consolation title at Sycamore. Three games into the season, the Johnsburg Skyhawk cage club is already a championship team. The Skyhawks har­ vested the first place trophy in Round Lake's annual Thanksgiving tournament by coasting past the host school 57-47, edging Fenton 45-42 and defeating Wauconda 62-57 for the title. McHenry JV Pom-Pon squad finished second against 15 schools in the Badgerett clinic held at Mundelein high school. DECEMBER McHenry Warriors opened Fox Valley play in fine style with an easy 75 to 50 win over Jacobs high school. The« sophomore cagers defeated Belvidere in the Kaneland tourney 54-53. They also defeated Jacobs, 45 to 36. Marian Central football players were recognized for various awards. Receiving most improved lineman award was Dan Coughlin; most improved back, Bob Burg; most valuable, best defensive player and most valuable back, Tom Baumann; and Bob Moehling most valuable lineman. The Marengo Indians narrowly defeated the Johnsburg Skyhawks, 46-45, 4r-m the first Shark Conference game of the season. \ The Warriors wer^ defeated by Grant, 70-67, when ° Grant scored-24 free throws. The Warriors overcame a 12-point deficit to defeat Crown Cagers 67-64. In the annual Sophomore Round Robin tourney the McHenry high sophomore team had a 25-point third quarter splurge to defeat Schaumburg by the score of 63 to 34. Marianne May, a four- sport standout while at Marian Central, has com­ pleted her final season as a member of the Northwestern u n i v e r s i t y w o m e n ' s volleyball team. Coach Gary Collins still has the hex over his former mentor Ken Ludwig, as the Collins-coached Crystal Lake South Gators defeated the Warriors 64 to 59. Things just seemed to be going right for the McHenry Varsity wrestlers at the Jacobs Gblden Eagle wrestling invitational. In spite of wrestling„only nine weight classes and forfeiting three, the Warriors placed third in the eight-team tourney. Despite a brilliant 27-point effort by senior ace Tom Schoenig, the Johnsburg Skyhawks lost a crucial Shark conference game 63-55 at Beloit Catholic. The next night a much improved Johnsburg squad lost a thrilling-overtime contest 66- 64 at Grant. McHenry high girls* basketball team won its opener by defeating Wauconda 53 to 34. Terri Bohlman led the scoring with 18 points, followed by Sue Hutchinson with 16 points. In the sophomore tourney McHenry defeated Deerfield 51 to 45. Then they defeated Crystal Lake South 43 to 39.
