These problems are not confined to McHenry alone, but are shared by other districts throughout the state. It is the collective hope of students enrolled in the parents, teachers, school schools remained the same board members and school and the cost of living rose administration that the sharply. This loss of revenue legislature in Springfield is one of the reasons the will provide more realistic district has been forced to funding for public education this year. The State Con- Parents Make Effort To Increase School State Aid stitution mandates that the State pay for 50 percent of the cost of education, yet in recent years its "half" has dropped closer to one-third. Under the guidance of the Legislative Alert committee of McHenry county, parents are appealing to all the citizens of this community to lend a hand. This can be accomplished they say, by picking up a pen and writing a letter to senators, representatives, and the governor requesting the legislature reexamine budget priorities with the income they presently have. This would not mean a tax increase to taxpayers, just more equitable utilization of present revenues. In order to provide a better understanding of the problems and possible solutions, Sen. Jack Schaffer will be at Valley View school Saturday, March 22, at 9:30 a.m. to speak on the issues and answer the questions. Interested persons are urged to come to the meeting, listen to Sen. Schaffer and join in the Legislative Alert letter writing campaign. Sample letters will be provided. Those who cannot attend the coffee and still wish to express their feelings in Springfield are asked by the sponsors to address letters to the following officials: Governor James Thomp son.
