Farmer and the school board have made major cuts in per sonnel and programs known to the public as of the eighteenth of March. I feel it is very important for anyone interested in public education to make our needs known to Gov. Thompson, our legislators and the state school board. "We can't afford to sit back and hope someone else will let our representatives know how we feel, we must each write to our elected officials and let them know what our situation is and that they must do something to change it., ir "The legislature needs to increase the per-child amount to a recommended $1,501. "At this time we are required to tax ourselves $1.86 per $1,000 of our assessed evaluation to qualify for any help from the state. "Gov. Thompson is now recommending raising that to $1.95. Since we are not taxing at that level we would again lose state aid and face more cuts again next year. The only way to increase our $1.86 to $1.95 is to pass a referendum and we haven't passed one for 14 years. "The only way to keep the tax level to $1.86 is to write to our elected officials and tell them the cuts we have already made and that they must protect school systems in our situation. v- "Kay Halverson "3411 Fairway Drive "McHenry" "Editor: "I wish to express my deep concern with reference to the present financial problems facing District 15. As a parent and a taxpayer I am intimately involved in the most recent an nouncement by the school board of extensive cuts in our present educational program. Why was our state aid reduced by $351,235? I want to help to reverse this pattern of declining state participation in their responsbility to fund public education. "I am calling on my friends and neighbors in the community, to join with me in expressing our dissatisfaction directly to our legislative represen tatives in Springfield. One or two letters will have little effect, but correspondence from the entire community could have a major impact. If you haven't already written, please, write now! "James E. Young" "Editor: "Increased state funding for our schools is important. We are urging the Hilltop Parents to support our letter writing campaign to our legislators. We need a guarantee for additional funds in order to maintain our struggle against in flation.
