It wasn't rabbits they were looking for. The little ones were on the annual hunt for plastic easter egges, that were scattered throughout the area. Instead of yolks, the eggs contained candy and gum. Some of them had gift certificates Inside. Through the thought- fulness of one of my favorite people, I am going to see the White Sox opener in Comiskey Park Thursday. Am certainly glad we didn't go down to Sarasota this year, only to have the training camp games cancelled. That must be a real letdown for all the old codgers we have seen at the games. Too bad. But, they are only the fans who pay the freight. Will have a word or two to say about the Wonderful World of Comiskey Park next week after viewing the team in action. V At this point, it seems most baseball fans are not on the players' side. One fan summed it. up this way. A man making 15 thousand a year takes his two young sons out to the ball park and sees a 700 thousand dollar a year player being unhappy. What does the man, who scraped to buy tickets, popcorn and hot- dogs, think about the situation? One fellow in the crowd mentioned that politicians can toss taxpayers' money around with reckless abandon, but most owners of baseball teams have some stockholders to satisfy. "Where are they going to get the money?", said the man. "Raise the price of tickets," came a voice from the rear. Reading reviews by sports writers who saw the teams in training doesn't give us much hope for either the Cubs or Sox. Of course, all predictions depend on the usual "Ifs". If injuries are not too numerous, both teams should provide a lot of en tertainment. They have reserve players who can get the job done Trying to find a spot for Alan Bannister's bat in the Sox lineup seems to be a problem. Evidently 'his throwing arm is not fully recovered from surgery. His bat is needed. Cub fans must wonder how come Karl Pagel was sent back to the minors. He had all the statistics and was voted the most valuable player in the minor leagues last year. He must wonder what more he has to prove. Now comes a week of eating hard boiled and deviled eggs. The funny bunny has us loaded. Anybody for chess? We know a nice couple who would like to find some players. Let me know. A successful marriage requires falling in love many times ~ with the same person. ---Robert Wagner Lutheran Digest By Dick Rabbitt Four members of Coach Ken Ludwig's Warriors were honored at the Annual McHenry County Basketball banquet held at West Campus Monday evening. An contrast, some papyrus icroils have sur vived more rhan dJOOO years. Many are the skills that go into the making of a good fishery biologist, but Harvey Brown of the Illinois Department of Conservation probably never thought midwifery was among them. But midwife Brown did as he "delivered" ap proximately 360,000 northern pike eggs from northerns trapped this past week in Timber Creek Farms and Nurseries Sequoit Creek near Antioch. Actually, from the pikes' point of view, it was probably regarded more as theft, but Brown and Illinois Department of Conservation regional fisheries supervisor Gary Erickson view the pike trapping as necessary to obtain pike fry for stocking in public lakes around the state. The northern is one of the largest - game fish predators found in Illinois waters and is prized by anglers both for its fight and fine taste. Both male and female northerns were netted on their way up the creek from Lake'Marie in the Chain O'Lakes during their annual spring spawning run. Brown and Erickson knew when to put out the nets because the pike react to the water temperatures.
