STAFF PHOTO-WAYNE GAYLORD Tim Sabatka, a senior at McHenry West high school, recently was named one of two runners-up in the sixth annual Business Career Development Program (BCDP) competition. Sabatka, son of Mr. and Mrs. Michael Sabatka of McHenry, received a $150 check for taking the runner- up place. He was honored at a BCDP luncheon at the Palmer House in Chicago. The BCDP competition, for high school seniors in business and-or office education programs, is co- sponsored by Executive Women International (EWI) and Sears, Roebuck and Co. Students from 48 Chicago- area high schools entered this year's competition. BCDP awards recognize academic excellence and achievements in extra curricular and civic projects. The competition is open to seniors in public, private and parochical high schools. The program is approved by the National Association of Secondary School Prin cipals and endorsed by the American Vocational association. Recycling Funds Aid Voter League Program Members of the Wood- stoick-McHenry League of Women Voters will be on hand Saturday, April 19, at the McHenry Market Place to work along with the McHenry County Defenders as citizens bring in their materials for recycling. The League has an ongoing project dealing with voter registration and will use some of its funds earned at the drive to make non partisan voter guides available to the public in the fall. The guides attempt to put out information on all the candidates, although the League itself never backs specific candidates, only issues. In addition to this work the group is doing some in-depth studies of domestic violence with specific em phasis on battered women. Schools and land use are among their other areas of study. Members of the league will be available from 8:30 until 5 to help unload cars and see that the prepared material brought to the drive is moved along toward the next step in being recycled. Recycling helps save natural resources, saves space in landfills, and aids the groups working on the drives. An increasing number of organizations and families are becoming in volved in this project. Over 70 different community groups have worked on the drives, and a survey taken last month showed that 614 cars brought recyclable materials to the Market Place. All citizens are urged to become a part of this growing practice, whether they recycle through this project or through other recycling drives that are carried on by groups or individuals. The goal is to keep all newspaper, magazines, cardboard, glass, cans, aluminum, and used motor oil out of the solid waste stream and put them back into the natural resource stream. If anyone has questions regarding preparation of materials, call the McHenry C o u n t y D e f e n d e r representative at 385-8512. Anyone having material to be picked up may call 385- 2278.
