Deaths {CATHERINE BROWN Katherine Brown, 89, 3420 Broad street, McHenry, died Tuesday, April 15, in McHenry hospital. She was born May 26, 1890 in John­ sburg, to Peter and Anna (Schmitt) Diedrich. She is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Richard (Helen) Schmitt, McHenry and Mrs. Leo (Rita) Schaefer, Johnsburg; two sons, Donald, Wheeling and Gerald, Lakeland, Fla.; 18 grandchildren; 6 great grandchildren and a sister, Mrs. Leo Regner, Volo. Mrs. Brown, formerly of Volo, was a longtime resident of McHenry; member of St. Mary's Catholic church and Christian Mothers. A funeral Mass will be conducted Saturday, 11 a.m. at St. Mary's church. Visitation will be held Friday from 2 until 9 p.m. at the George R. Justen & Son funeral home, with a Rosary recited at 3 and 8 p.m. In­ terment in St. Mary's church cemetery. Memorialis are requested to the McHenry Rescue Squad. RAYMOND MURPHY Raymond Murphy, 525 Carlisle court, Glen Ellyn, 111, died Wednesday, April 16, in Snow Valley Nursing center. He was 81, born Jan. 26,. 1899, in Schiller Park, 111. to Michael and Rachel Murphy. He was formerly of Chicago, a summer resident of McCidlom Lake and a permanent resident of that village over 17 years; a member of St. Patrick's Catholic church; the VFW 4600; American Legion 491 and a Navy verteran of WW I. Mr. Murphy is survived by his nephew, Glenn (Carol) Murphy of Glen Ellyn and two sisters. He was preceded in death by his wife Gertrude, Feb. 2, 1976. A funeral Mass will be conducted Saturday, 10 a.m. at St. Patrick's, McHenry, with interment in St. Patrick's Churchyard cemetery. Visitation will be at the George R. Justen & Son funeral home Saturday from 9 to 9:30 a.m. Memorials may be made to St. Patrick's Catholic church, McHenry. v: ' HELEN SMITH Helen Smith, 77, of 1405 N. Court street, McHenry, died Thursday, April 17, at McHenry hospital. She was born March 14, 1903, in Johnsburg, the daughter of Stephen H. and Catherine (Klapperich) Freund. Survivors include her husband, Bernard N. Smith; three children, Robert of Harvard; Mrs. Charles (Bernice) Diedrich of McHenry and Mrs. Lloyd (Doris) Freund of John­ sburg; 15 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren; a brother, Herbet H. Freund of McHenry and three sisters, Mrs. Ernest (Mary) Buch, Mrs. Frank (Celia) Blake and Bertilla Freund, all of McHenry. Two brothers, Carl J. Freund and Anton P. Freund preceded her in death. She was a member of St. Mary's Catholic church, McHenry; Christian Mothers; Catholic Order of Foresters, and formerly a Pink Lady at the McHenry hospital. Visitation will be Friday from 3 to 9 p.m. at the Peter M. Justen & Son funeral home. A funeral Mass will be held Saturday, 1:30 p.m. at St. Mary's, McHenry, with burial in St. Mary's cemetery. Memorials would be ap­ preciated to the McHenry Rescue Squad. SHIRLEY M. DOHERTY Shirley M. Doherty, 57, of > 3714 W. Main street, McHenry, died at McHenry hospital Tuesday, April 15. She was born in McHenry March 30,1923, the daughter of Martin B. and Kathryn (Williams) Schmitt, and lived in McHenry all her life. Survivors include her husband, John W., whom she married Jan. 29, 1946; three sons, Ronald T., McHenry; John P., Wonder Lake and Daniel M., Kenosha, Wis.; two daughters, Mrs. Douglas (Melisa) McDougall and Donna M. Doherty, both of McHenry. Other survivors are three granddaughters and a sister, Mrs. Wanda McCafferty, Wonder Lake. A funeral Mass was held 11 a.m. Thursday, at St. Patrick's Catholic church, McHenry, with burial in St. Patrick's Churchyard cemetery. Visitation was at Peter M. Justen & Son funeral home. Memorials are requested to the American Cancer society. JOSEPH TONY AN Joseph Tonyan, of Crystal Lake, died Monday, April 14, at the Carestoel Professional Care center, McHenry. He was 87 years old, born Oct. 28, 1892, in Johnsburg, the son of Bernard and Catherine (Kennebeck) Tonyan. Mr. Tonyan was a retired dairy farmer ; member of St. Thomas Catholic church, Crystal Lake and the Order of Foresters. He married Elizabeth Rosing June 4, 1919, in Volo and she passed away in 1975. A daughter, Mrs. Marie Dowell of McHenry and a son, Raymond of Crystal Lake survive; also four grandchildren and three great grandchildren. He was precedced in death by his parents and several brothers and sisters. Visitation was Wednesday from 3 to 9 p.m. at the Querhammer funeral home, Crystal Lake. Funeral services were held at St. Thomas Catholic churdh, Crystal Lake, at 11' a.m. Thursday, with in­ terment in St. Mary's cemetery, McHenry. LORRAINE M. HUTCHINSON Lorraine M. Hutchinson, 50, of 2514 N. Lincoln road, McHenry, died Monday, April 14, at University hospital, Madison, Wis. She was born Jan. 16, 1930, in Ogema, Wis., to Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Swan son. Mrs. Hutchinson was an 18-year resident of McHenry; a member of Alliance church, McHenry; worked at the Jewel Food store, Mundelein, for 10 years and the McHenry Jewel for 8 years. She married Alvin E. Hutchinson April 28, 1962, in Mundelein, who survives. Other survivors are Mrs. Raymond (Valerie) Keil, Elgin; Mrs. C. A. (Laura) Barnett, Wonder Lake; Mrs. Paul (Jean) RybeCk, Car- pentersville; Miss Jill Hutchinson, McHenry; Keith, Wonder Lake and Paul, Chicago. Her father, Arthur Swan son, Wisconsin; three grandchildren; two sisters, Mrs. Clarence (Virginia) Block, In­ dianapolis and Mrs. James (Joan) Johnson, Racine; and one brother, Monroe Swsanson, Indiana, also survive. She was precedced in death by a daughter, Marilyn K. on April 30,1976. Visitation was scheduled Thursday from 2:30 until time of service, (8:30 p.m.) at the George R. Justen & Son funeral home, conducted by Reverend Ralph Smith of the First United Methodist church. Private inurnment to follow. Memorials are requested to the Kidney foundation. WILLIAM B. GARDNER A lifetime resident of Solon Mills, William B. Gardner, of North Solon road, died suddenly Monday, April 14, at his home. He was 69 years old, born March 24, 1911, in Solon Mills, the son of Willis and Addie (Overton) Gard­ ner. He married Evelyn Guthrie on May 11, 1941, in West Point, 111. Mr. Gardner attended R i c h m o n d s c h o o l s ; graduated from McHenry high school in 1929 and the University of Illinois in 1937. He was a farmer and a certified tree farmer for the past 25 years. He also operated his own saw mill. He was a veteran of WW II; member of the Community church of Richmond; McHenry County Farm Bureau; president of the R i c h m o n d T o w n s h i p Cemetery Board and was the Sawyer for the Will County and Northern Illinois Steam Power shows. Survivors include his wife, Evelyn, two daughters, M a r g a r e t G a r d n e r , M t . Prospect and Mrs. Robert (Virginia) Riggins of Mahomet, 111.; two grand­ children; two sisters, Mrs. John (Eunice) Sanderson, Fontana and Mrs. Lawrence A. (Ruth) Johnson of Hebron; and a brother, Robert W. Gardner of Solon Mills. Funeral services were scheduled Thursday, 1:30 p.m. at Ehorn-Adams funeral home in Richmond, with Reverend Glenn Mensing officiating and interment in North Solon cemetery. Memorials may be made in his name to the Com- munitychurch of Richmond or the Northern Illinois Steam Power club. CHARLES C. RAM AGE, SR. A former McHenry resident, Charles C. Ramage, Sr., 79, passed away Wednesday, April 16, in Appleton, Wis. where he had been living since 1975. He was born Nov. 7,1900, in Dongola, 111., lived in Chicago most of his life, where he was employed by the Chicago Sanitary district. He was a member of the ' Masonic lodge of McHenry; a Shriner; past president of the Lions club of Chicago and a past president of the Businessmen's association of Chicago; member of Shepherd of the Hills Lutheran church while living in McHenry. Survivors include his wife, L o r e t t a ( P i n k o n s l y ) Ramage; a son, Charles C. Jr., 1625 N. Edgewood avenue, Appleton, Wis. 54911; four grandchildren; two brothers, Simon, Louisville and Jesse, Phoenix. No visitation was scheduled; a private family funeral service will be held Friday in Appleton. A memorial fund has been established for the Grace Lutheran church, 900 N.
