Rabid Wildlife Warning contact a physician or the McHenry County Department of Health immediately. Avis Gans, center, chairman of the McHenry Business ft Professional Women's scholarship committee, is shown with two scholarship recipient Colleen Byrne, left, and Eileen Ahern. On Friday, July 11, the McHenry County Depart ment of Health received lab Conffrmation that a skunk found wandering in a school yard in the City of Harvard was rabid. Although no known human exposure to this skunk has been repor ted, the department is concerned that other wildlife and domestic animals may have been bitten by this skunk. Animal rabies in Illinois is three times higher for 1980 than 1979, and nine times higher than the yearly average for 1974 through 1978. One of the parts of Illinois where several cases of animal rabies have oc curred this year is nor thwestern Illinois, including Stephenson and Winnebago counties. Therefore, the department is concerned that many other skunks in this area may become rabid. The following precautions should be taken by all per sons in McHenry county : 1 - If your family pet (dog or cat) has not been vac cinated against rabies, get it ^vaccinated. 2 - Stay away from stray dogs, cats or wild animals. 3 - Do not attempt to make pets of a wild animal. 3 DAYS ONLY - Thur, Fri & Sat I Quantities Limited [TilSYrJlJ July 17,18,19 I to Available Supplies PACKER'S GIGANTIC ""SHRIMP /YAOrsm .O/VXL RY / PRIDEN J OF VCHICAGO One Pound All Meat HOT DOGS with each $4500 order VA Beef Patties Quarter pound patties 20 Patty 5 Rl *7.80 4 - Any animal (pet or wild animal) that is behaving in an unusal manner should be reported to the Animal Control center in Woodstock at 338-7040 immediately. An unusual manner of a skunk would be for it to be seen in the daytime. Pets may be more affectionate or more irritable than usual and cats have been known to hide in bushes, around corners or under automobiles and suddenly attack. 5 • Any person bitten or scratched by an animal should thoroughly scrub the wound with liberal amounts of soap and water and * « * * Some of the smartest things that we have heard have come from the lips of children. • • • * An open mind is a good asset, but don't let it become so open that nothing stays in it. • • » • Promises are easier to make than to fulfill but people pontinue to make them carelessly.
