JACKSON - OWNER 338-1560 TERMS: Cash or good check W.H. Russel, Auctioneer Helps Rescue Squads Hp mm- Both the McHenry Area Rescue Squad and the Johnsburg Rescue Squad are reporting "unbelievably clear transmission and reception" between the sites of their ambulance calls and the Emergency departments of area hospitals, due to the new communications system , recently installed in this area. The new system uses two new antennas in the cities of McHenry and Cary, as well as a new control console at McHenry hospital. All 15 rescue squads and am bulance companies in the McHenry county-Western Lake county Mobile In tensive Care Unit (MICU) program have been testing the system in former "trouble spots" for the past few weeks, according to James Reardon, paramedic coordinator of the program. "Our statistics on hun dreds of check-out sites show that we are getting un believably clear tran smission and reception in about 98 percent of the areas we have tested - even in deep hollows and inside metal-framed factories," Reardon said. The two new antennas supplement the original antenna atop the McHenry County building on Route 47. One is atop the public safety building in Cary, and the other on the hilltop property of the McHenry Sand and Gravel company in McHenry (on Route 120). "The system is much, much improved," says Dick Seaborn, squad coordinator and chief of the Johnsburg Rescue squad. "We have gone to all the questionable sites in our service area to check out the performance of our portable two-way telemetry. The--difference has been like night anc Besides solving our problem areas, thenew system has made our good areas even better." The keystone of the hospital-based equipment is a micro-processor, ac cording to George M. Gallant, M.D., medical project director of the MICU program. "This is the first telemetry system to utilize a micro-processOr, and it is being observed and evaluated carefully for the possible use of other MICU programs throughout the country." Bob Dooley, squad coordinator of the McHenry Area Rescue squad, agrees that the new system has worked out better than could be foreseen. "Our new telemetry system is doing very well even in difficult factory buildings and shopping centers. There is no interference or override during transmission and reception. We are pleased with the result." Funding for the com munications project was shared by the MICU squads and departments, and by McHenry hospital. The squads contributed funds for the antenna towers, and the hospital paid for the telemetry console and partial field equipment. Contributions were made by the following depart ments: McHenry Area Rescue, Johnsburg Rescue, Cary Fire Protection District, Crystal Lake Fire- Rescue, Fox Lake Fire department, Fox River Grove fire, Hebron Rescue, Marengo Rescue, Nunda Rural Fire-Rescue, Rich mond Fire-Rescue, Wonder Lake Fire department, (Co.
