A father and son race is in progress as Art Jackson leads with 220 while his son Dennis is only 3 strokes behind. Tim Martin 225, Gary Adams and Don Hojnacki each with 227, and Ed Buss 228. That's close. * Next Sunday at about 12:30 the leaders will tee off, each with the championship in mind. There's good news today! Barb Weber, my cart partner each year, will be back at the controls again next Sunday. It looked for a while as though Barb would be out of town on the big day, but plans have worked out just dandy. Thought I would have to find a new partner. Would have posted a notice "Males need not apply". That annual event is something I look forward to all year. It is a fun day. Had to drive down town early Monday morning and it brought back memories of my father telling the family we missed the best part of the day when we didn't roll out early in the morning. If that was the best, we were willing to settle for the next best. Elvis Presley has been gone from this earth three years and the gals are still shedding tears. Somebody new may come along to take their fancy. Sophomore Jinx? If you can remember when you could visit a doctor's office without an ap pointment, you are not a kid. Met my long time friend Harvey Nye, another McHenry native, and ex changed a few pleasantries. "i ^d " T column and that sum _. mt all the housework you do -- and I don't believe a d-- word of it." How can anybody doubt what they read in this column? After a lot of enjoyment reading old scrapbooks from Irene Rieger, I returned them and learned they were put together by her aunt, the late Annie Frisby. Aunt Annie reported personals for the Plaindealer for many years. You should see the number of trap shooting trophies Paul Rieger has in the living room. Any more and he will have to build a separate trophy room. Unless it is the sight of a mother admiring her baby, one of the nicest sights is to see her stand back and admire the jars after a day of home canning. Can't get into the usual controversies about the relative merits of the Cubs and Sox. Neither team has set the world on fire this season. ) When the Cubs have been up, at least a little bit, in some years and our Sox wore dragging, certain Cub fans would give me a look like the cat who ate the canary. Now, their greetings are quite normal. With a Cub-down, Sox-up situation you know I wouldn't ride herd over those Wrigley fans. McHENRY TENNIS-is underway for all levels as morning practices have been held at Freund Field tennis courts because the West Campus courts are being resurfaced. Sophomore Julie Larkin is vying for a high spot on the varsity roster this year. Others sophomores will alto get their chance to see varsity action because there to only one senior girl out for coach "Gary Gray's team. ' STAFF PHOTO-JOEL WAK1TSCH small print (The - Hell -1 - Wouldn't!) Don't forget the Johnsburg Rescue Squad dance Saturday night. Talk about the fastest draw in the West, Chairman TipO'Neil (an old warhorse) showed 'em the fastest draw in the East at the National Democratic Convention. He saved hours with voice votes. "In the opinion of the chair, the Ayes or Noes have it." 01' Tip knows how to get the job done. In my personal opinion, any meeting that lasts beyond Vh hours brings on fuzzy thinking, tired blood, tired seats, and irritable dispositions. As we wind up or wind down, the phone rings and Dan Jus ten wants to report that my brother-in-law, George R. Miller, visited his establishment and used my private hat rack. Dan assures me no damage was done. Making The Turn Plaindealer Senior halfback, Don Doessel turns the corner and finds plenty of daylight as his teammate shoves the defense inside during Tuesday's McHenry High School football practice behind West Campus. The Letterman doubles as a linebacker on defense, stands only five feet, seven-inches tall and weighes 155 pounds. H»e Warriors, under second-year coach Joe Schlender, have been practicing in 81 and M degree weather and will continue two sessions per day until school starts. A comprehensive look at all tall sports for McHenry, Johnsburg and Marian Central High Schools will come your way September 3 in the form of the a supplement called FALL SPORTS PREVIEW.
