Airman In Specialized Aircraft Maintenance - monitoring of mosquito light traps has indicated that the onslaught of severe mosquito ilations has begun. The unusually high numbers of mosquitos were triggered by the August is, according to a mosquito control company. During the early part of the summer it looked as though the mosquito level would be about normal. And then the rains came. During the first two-thirds of August, rains were recorded at more than six inches at O'Hare field - about inches over the normal for the entire month. As a result, from now through Labor day, far greater swarms of mosquitoes than usual will blanket our area, warned an outdoor spraying compajQu which serves McHenityP Crystal Lake, Lakemoor, Oakwood Hills, Spring Grove, Woodstock, Fox •Lake, Island Lake, and Grant township. • According to the firm, mosquito eggs must be submerged in water to hatch. Title flooded breeding grounds mean that millions more than normal will hatch than would in the usually dry Augusts of other years. Streams, ponds and swamps have swelled to many times their usual levels. As the eggs hatch * and the mosquitoes mature, they breed and then go in search of feed areas, attracted by the lights of nearby cities and towns. Mosquito populations have already exceeded the moderate leveldFhe first waves of the severe influx will invade our area about Aug. 27 and with successive broods con tinuing to move in about weekly thereafter through at least Sept. 3. Because of the short intervals, it will seem like a single onslaught. Their progress will be monitored by light traps located throughout our area. Though we know it is coming, some precautions can be taken.
