Although some optimism had been expressed earlier in the week, the strike of McHenry County college teachers went into its fifth day Thursday. An MCC spokesman said a special meeting was called by the board Wednesday evening, followed by a negotiations session. No agreement was reached. A regular board meeting was scheduled for Thursday evening, and the college spokesman said this would probably be followed by further negotiations The Faculty association originally proposed a 7 percent cost-of-living salary increase. The board negotiations team offered a 3.2 percent increase. |V« HKiriv, PAWS ANIMAL WELFARE ASSOCIATION P.O. Box 205 * Crystal Lake, Illinois 60014 • (815)459-2641 By Carla Bennett Wildlife Committee Exciting! That's how the Wildlife committee feels about its first project. In an effort to make some real headway toward banning the barbaric leghold trap in Illinois. They have com posed a poster which will explain in word and picture why the trap should be outlawed. There will be postcards for people to detach from the posters, sign and mail to their state senator or representative. One hundred of these posters with post cards will be put up before 'this fall's trapping season. Helping Paws members will service the posters, replenishing cards when necessary. Please be sure to mail a card to your legislator and encourage people you know to do so, too. Postcards will also be available at the Helping Paws office, 465 Virginia street, Crystal Lake. Please get as many as you can use. The total cost will be $284. If you would like to make a contribution specifically to support this project and help defray the expense, mark your check in the lower left corner, "Ban the Trap". The steel-jaw leghold trap is already banned in Great Britain, West Germany, Costa Rica, Uganda and many other countries,as well as in several states in our country. All furs, except some mink, come to us by way of the steel-jaw trap. We urge you to not only not buy real fur, but also to speak out against it at every op portunity. Fur coats can truly be called, "Tributes to Tor ture". All pet adoptions must be validated by the signing of a contract along with the adoption fee, which includes the cost of the spay or neuter surgery from a vet of HP's choice or a deduction from the cost of the surgery if done by a vet of your choice. Pr*s*nt«d by STATE BANK OF RICHMOND msmbsr F.D.I.C. Q. While visiting a friend and his wife on a trip this summer it was men tioned they each had safe deposit boxes. Isn't this a waste of money? A. No. It's becoming a fairly common practice for both the man and wife to have individual safe deposit boxes. The primary motivate n for the separate boxes comes from recommen dations by estate plan ning counselors who realj^e that laws in most sta'tes require the safe deposit box to be im mediately sealed of someone who dies. Although this may create only a week or so of in convenience, it often prevents the surviving spouse from getting documents that may be needed at once. It can be more convenient to keep your will and insurance information in yuui spouse's safe deposit box and her s in a box in your name. fronol Rebate Roundup Prices of the Season!
