Front St. (Rte. 31) McHenry 385-7747 Best Wishes For A Great Season I Jos. H. Huemann & Sons 2020 W. Johnsburg ltd., Johistarg 385-0414 You're $ Aheod With Your Own Well Scurrying bock and forth from Marian Central to Johnsburg in an effort to tie up loose ends for the sports preview, I got to Johnsburg about fifteen minutes after practice was due to end. I entered the gym, hoping to find the volleyball coach Carol Kanet zke there or at least jn her office. Better yet, I found Kanetzke and two of her four lettermen, staying late to work on set-ups at the net. Kanetzke tossed ball after ball up in the air as All conference pick Inge Dschida and Sue Dehn took turns setting the ball gently up in the air while the other retrieved the balls. Coming off of a 7-5 season, the volleyball Skyhawks have lost All-conference player, Lora Jacobs, out standing spiker, Debby Herdrich and Liz Stoffel and they have to work overtime in order to prepare for the up-coming campaign. The four lettermen returning are Inge Dschida, Sue Dehn, Sue Moulis and Cheri Kofler, the only junior in the group. The will be joined by 12 other players when the skyhawks take on Williams Bay Sept. 9 at home in the first match of the season. Carol is optimistic about the season, despite the fact that the team is not tall. The squad does have good "average height", however, according to Kanetzke. "All of our players stand about £>' 7" or so which will keep things consistent," Kanetzke pointed out. A good defense and the aquisition of more skill and knowledge since last year should keep the Skyhawks in contention for the conference title this year, accor ding to Kanetzke. "Our whole program should be better that in years past because we have more girls out than ever before from seniors to freshmen." The only other seniors out for the team are Lisa Carlson and Kathie Kling, while the following juniors will round out the rest of the team...Diana Bavetz, Kelly Beitz, Colleen Boak, Patti Maag, Dawne Haynie, Peggy Nowak, Ellen O'Malley, Eileen Koch, Gina Pecucci and Debby Sobiesk. LeeAnn Cristy will handle the sophomore and freshman squads for Johnsburg and she hopes to have a good sophomore season despite the fact that there are only 10 players out. We don't have that many sophomores, but we do have tons of talent," she said. "The freshmen haven't V started practice yet, but we do have about 15 girls coming out for the team." Good Luck in '80!
