Mikus, 34, calls White Hall, Illinois his hometown. He coached /'everything," for seven years at Harrison Grade School in Wonder Lake, so coaching is not totally unfamiliar to him. Mikus attended Western Illinois University at Macomb where he studied Music Sportsketch GOLF No Place To Play Like Johnsburg's golf team, A n ew coach has taken over, but the Marian problems seem to be a bit dif ferent than those of the Sky hawks. New coach, Rich Mikus look bewildered as he stood at the first tee at McHenry Country Club, unable to tee-off. "I don't know what to do here,"Mikus scratched his hedd. "We were told that we could practice here on Tuesdays and Thursdays, but now they won't let us out on the course because of a tournament coming up this weekend." Mikus admitted that a lack of facilities to practice at is a big problem for the Hurricanes this season. Mikus took over the Marian reigns this year after personell cutbacks over the summer, and he hopes that his for ces will have a place to play on days of matches. "If they ever let us play, John Leucht (a senior) has to be our strongest point," Mikus said. "He missed being a state contender last year by two strokes. However John goes is how we go." The only other letterman this year is Jeff Schaefer, a senior who will play in the number two position behind Leucht. Ron Nye, a junior, and TomMcMahon, also a junior will round out the top four golfers for Marian. Other golfers who hope to break into the starting four include senior Kelly O'Leary and juniors Eric Adamshick and Rob Kunz. The other five contenders will all compete in the junior varsity ranks, according to Mikus. Because coach Mikus is in his first year, he asked John Leucht to pick the top teams in the West Subur ban Catholic Conference. "St. Edwards should be the team to beat, however, Immaculate Conception and Benet are always tough also," Leucht said. THE BIG FOUR-far Marian Central's golf team include, letterman Jeff Schaefer. senior, Ron Nye, Junior. Tom McMahon, Junior and senior letterman, John Leucht.
