In a match that was settled on the final hole, Bill Fuiava captured the 54-hole Club Championship at Chapel Hill last weekend. Fuiava and Donovan parred the 585-yard hole with fives, while Hayes dropped out of contention as he finished in a third-place tie with Lloyd Freund at 247. Moving on to the par three, hole 18, Fuiava drove his ball pin high and to the right of the greea He pitched on and two- putted for a bogie, while Donovan pitched over the green on his second shot and settled for a five on the hole, thus surrendering to the big Hawaian. Like meeting Joe Etten on Riverside Drive, noting that the summer is shot while our aches and pains continue. There seems to be a shortage of pennies. Stores are asking for them. Suppose most of us could dig up some from a collection, sort out any old ones then put the rest in circulation. The supply of pennies from heaven seems to have run out. A Memories. It was an event when our mother bought a new broom to replace the worn down stubby one. With my own two eyes, I saw a bicycle rider (a girl) stop for a red signal light. Yes, I did! The boy with her sailed right through with his guardian angel hovering above. It was in the fall of the year when Marilyn Reihansperger was driving past our home and saw Alvina out front raking leaves. Out of her car popped our fair lady with her camera to snap some pictures. I was sure she was going to connive with "Brenda" to publish a picture to show up you know who. Marilyn didn't come around to the back yard to see me slaving away. After attending several funerals, it was a great feeling to join wedding festivities. Chris Wittrock chose a real nice little girl, a pretty blonde, Annie Irvin, and met her at the altar in the McHenry Methodist church where Rev. Ralph Smith firmly tied the knot. The seriousness of the ceremony was lightened when they couldn't break the thread which fastened the ring to the pillow. It used to be that the Bestman would carry the ring in a coat pocket, then fumble to find it as anxiety mounted. Mama Irene arranged to have us sit with a jolly group at the reception and a great time resulted. We didn't know any of them when we sat down, but were old time friends at the conclusion. Yep. Funerals have to be. Weddings we like. Twice Told Tales listed me last week as celebrating my 31st year with the Plain- dealer 10 years. Anyway you figure it, that should have been 35 years. Wait a minute! Maybe I'm four years younger than I thought. Stop your car for some young people to cross the street and they will slow down to a crawl. We stopped for Ben Gates of McCullom Lake (not a young rooster anymore) when he actually had the walk sign and he almost ran. Hope to find a strong arm to boost me through the trap door of the press coop Friday night for the first MCHS football game. Somebody kidded me into thinking there would be a modern press box at Mc- Cracken Field this year. Oh, well -- I've been kidded before -- by experts. Am not looking forward to a modern press box for myself, but the little coop is too small for the game an nouncer, writers, camera Farm Bureau Team Wins State Tourney McHenry County's Farm Bureau Men's Slow-Pitch 12-inch team won the 1980 State tournament, taking the title for the fourth time in seven years.
