Energy Conservation Training For Police Protest Kindergarten Size Supt. R.J. Miller has announced the , im plementation of the State Police Energy Conservation (SPEC) program. The program consists of training in automotive maintenance, driving techniques and patrol tips. Troopers will be given the opportunity to test the newly acquired driving skills by operating a vehicle equipped with special Fuel Floscan Meters. 'This is one of the most important undertakings initiated by the state police in fiscal 1981," Miller said. "Proper implementation and adherence to the SPEC program will improve our overall fuel consumption by 10 percent and provide us the opportunity to do our part to conserve fuel." The state police believe another important side benefit of the program is that the officers can apply the procedures and techniques identified in the program to the operation of their personal vehicles. -BORN. September Campaign For Leukemia Funds FAMILY! BUFFET NIGHT * i * * * * * * * * * I I * * * * The Leukemia Society of America's slogan, "Count down to cure - it's only a matter of time", is not just a hope for the future, but a reality for today. The Leukemia society supported research is producing results. It is only a matter of timer In 1970, a tragic nine out of ten children stricken with acute leukemia died of the disease. Now more than half are alive and well at least five years after diagnosis. John B. Tingleff, Chair man of the Leukemia Society Campaign committee, an nounced that the 20th annual R e s i d e n t i a l c a m p a i g n , running the whole month of September, will involve over 30,000 marchers. They will go door to door asking friends and neighbors for a contribution to meet the estimated $200,000 goal for leukemia research. When the Leukemia marchers knock on your door, think of the children who look to you for hope and help. * • * * A little confidence in a person can often produce great results.
