Despite temperatures in excess of 100°, the Statlers were the first act to sell out the Sunday afternoon show in 28 years--drawing a crowd of 9,406 fans. The most memorable part of the day came after the record-breaking tempera tures and show, however. As the Statlers were leaving the Rodeo, they smelled smoke, spotted flames, and realized that their bus was on fire. A quick check revealed that the generator, located right next to the gas tanks, was aflame. Luckily, the police escort was able to summon the fire department quickly, and, after a nerve-wracking couple of minutes, the blaze was extinguished. The Statler Brothers were unharmed, but their bus driver suffered slight burns on his arms trying to put the fire out. • David and Howard Bellamy were in Los Angeles recently to complete their newest LP, Sons of the Sun. One of the songs on the album is entitled 'Endangered Species, Wildlife Federation.' A portion of the royalties on the song will be donated to the Audubon Society and the American Wildlife Federation. T.ta.
