Lakemoor-Lilymoor Area Margar 385-4934 At the mc the Lilymoor necessity for street signs was again discussed. The donation of black or white, latex or cement paint is needed to re-letter the road signs, and also the "artists" to do the painting. Mr. Polinski and Mr. Winkowski were given recognition for the clearing they did on the roadside of Crestwood. Plans were started for a bake sale in October. Jim Johnson will be doing more road grading as the streets dry off. The next meeting is scheduled for Monday, Oct. 6. All residents of Lilymoor are asked to attend, to help with the problems of the community, plus the by product of meeting neigh bors and making new friendships. TREES AND ROADS Maintaining the balance between progress and man's environmental needs is difficult. I have spoken with many people these past weeks to prevent the destruction of trees, determined necessary due to the plans for re-building Lily Lake road. All of us see only a part of the whole picture, as the blind men with the elephant. The engineer must provide for water drainage, so cut down the trees. The road commissioner wants to build a good road for as little money as possible, so cut down the trees. The forester knows of man's dependence on trees for existence, so he seeks an alternative to cutting down the trees. The residents know of the beauty, the shade, the wind and snow protection, the lessening of noise and dust, the haven for birds and wild life, so save the trees. A compromise is being worked on. Some of the 200- year-old oaks will remain. And perhaps even some of the so-called "junk" trees which add so much to our rural setting, will be left for all of us to enjoy as we speed along our nice, new, safe, level Lily Lake road. It's as the doctor who rs plastic surgery, we did not ask for, do need or even want.' GET WELL WISHES Julia Kraus had a difficult week. Her son John, had a heart attack and spent five days in the hospital. Plus her additional pain of arthritis reacting to the cool wet weather. John is now home, and the sunshine finally decided to stay with us, so this week is much better. As usual, Julia spent Thursday afternoon with her church group at Carestoel, visiting and sharing with the patients there. Marion and Don Leske were in Madison for several days, while Marion was undergoing tests at the hospital there. Former Lilymoor resident, Connie Johnson, was a patient on the same floor. Connie and Marion have been friends for many years, arid have many shared memories. The McHenry Nunda library was kept up through the efforts of these two ladies, and anyone who ever went to rummage sales, could always spot them. And remember the knitting they did on the knitting machines? And now they even share illnesses. Roy Head of Lilymoor is home from a hospital stay, feeling much better. He missed out on Lilymoor's roadside cleanup, but will be helping in any way he can, now. CELEBRATIONS Bud Hueckstaedt is another year closer to retirement as of Sept. 25. SOCIAL MEETING The Lily Lake Ladies League spent last Wed nesday evening at the home * of President Helen Para, hostess for the pight. The ladies played Bunco, and Julia Kraus finally won first prize. The shock must have been too much, as she forgot to take her prize home with her. Anna Brzezinski won second, Jean Dember, booby, and always-a-winner Connie O'Rourke made off with the door prize. Connie is the dear person who provides transportation for several of the ladies, and is always available to help others. This group meets twice a month for fun and compan ionship, and welcomes new members. Call Mrs. Walter Para. BIRTHDAY PARTY Shelly Gray will be eight years old Sept. 7. Friends from school and home will join her on Saturday for an afternoon of fun, games and refreshments. As Sept. 25 is the birthday of grandmother Emma Gray of Lilymoor, a cake, milk and coffee celebration will be held on the twenty-sixth for family members. There will be a lot of candles lit and blown out and many bir thday wishes made. COMMUNITY CALENDAR Sept. 25. Lakemoor village meeting. 8 p.m. Oct. 6. Lilymoor association, 1008 N. The purpose of the week is to increase public awareness and understanding of cystic fibrosis (CF), the number one genetic killer of young people in the United States. Many of the signs of CF are common to other respiratory and digestive disorders-if your child has any of the following signs, do not assume he has CF, but do consult with your doctor about the possibility of CF. Early diagnosis and treatment help to prolong lives, so be alert to: recurrent wheezing, per sistent coughing-excessive mucus, pneumonia more than once, excessive ap petite-poor weight gain, clubbing (enlargement) of the fingertips, salty taste to the skin, bulky stools, and nasal polyps. One good thing about living in the South during the heat wave-- if you have distant relatives, you know darn well they're going to stay that way.
